Oh, you gone and done it now! Cotto has gone and fought more current top WW's than any other current WW. (AND put up a fight! unlike Clottey, Hatton or Oscar) Put that in your pipe and smoke it!:ziggy
I'd figure Shane....in the US at least. He's an american fighter. He's been around a lot longer and his career surpasse anything Cotto has done....aside from gettin a win over Shane himself. Cotto has a very strong PR following and Top Rank has done some great marketing for Cotto fighting in MSG every year on the eve of the PR Parade....but I do feel Shane has the bigger name.
I am a Huge SSM fan but I have to go with Cotto Hands down! (i was leaning towards the final option at first . . . LMFAO!)
well Mosley is a legend of the sport. Cotto was an established fighter who was on the comeback trail. Mosley is the bigger name. Despite not being a PPV draw Mosley has great name recognition even among general sports fans who aren't really boxing fans. Its like Hopkins. Not really a big PPV draw but definately a very big name. When Mosley and Cotto fought, Mosley was kind of on a comeback trail himself. After the Vargas fight he took a long layoff and then fought Collazo As for drawing power, I'd say that when they fought they were about equal. Cotto's peak in terms of drawing power was after beating Mosley. Then he lost to Margo and lost alot of that. Mosley's peak was after beating Oscar of course and alot of that went away over the years but his destruction of Margo definately helped his cause although the inactivity didn't. Its pretty close.
You will be surprise, if you take Cotto's numbers and compare them to the biggest boxing stars at this moment Mayweather and Manny with exception of the Hatton and DLH fights. His numbers are similar to those fighters. Now imagine numbers if the DLH fight ever took place against Cotto what numbers that would have perform as well. Margarito had to ruin it
I believe Cotto is more of a ppv draw..The last PPV Shane was even in was with Miguel n 2007..Meanwhile Miguel has had 3 of em since than
If Floyd had fought Cotto before Cotto lost to Margarito, that would've been a ****ing blockbuster of a fight. Probably one for the history books.
my guess is Cotto but I absolutely have no basis for that honestly though here in the Philippines, people are much more likely to know Shane than Cotto (pre Pacquiao fight of course). Before the fight with Pac, a lot more people were asking who Cotto was, whereas with Shane, people seemed to recognize his name more, probably because he's been around for quite some time I've never really follow PPV numbers except when it comes to Pac and Floyd since it always becomes a point of contention when comparing the 2 fighters so unless someone enlightens me with the PPV buy history of the two it's all guesswork. A lot of you Americans say Shane isn't a draw in the US so I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.
correction, he has part of a nation. Puerto Rico is not a seperate nation on to its self, but rather a common wealth of the United States. As Guam is, and the Philippines once was.
Cotto/Judah set an attendance record at MSG so nuff said... Mosley isn't a big ticket seller... Might be a bit more now.. But not really... good co-star... But solo, can't outsell Cotto...
