lennox lewis fought alcommers in there own backyards as well. floyd mayweather despite being a very good boxer , never ever once tested himself on the road outside of homecooking never once going into the lion`s den in his whole career. american refs/judges /crowds/and never having to leave his own country in his whole career /compared to lennox lewis who was willing to fight on the road all the time should not be overlooked.
Lennox has an Olympic Gold medal and Mayweather does not. Lennox dominated a division where as Floyed jumped weights and cherry picked. Lennox beat every good HW before retiring whereas Floyed retired before fighting Williams, Cotto etc.
I'm not Floyd's biggest fan but I think people must be letting their personal dislike for him cloud their judgement. How anyone can watch these two guys fight then deny Mayweather is superior is beyond me. I don't think it's even close.
Mayweather is light years away from Lewis in terms of skills, firstly. Lewis was technically good, with good power, a good jab and a good guard. On the other hand, his footwork was plodding and he had some lucky escapes with his chin on occasion. PBF is a cut above. His defence is one of the most efficient boxing's ever seen, and from a purist's perspective his game is faultless. He's blisteringly quick, dictates the pace of fights and doesn't gas down the straight. Secondly, I just don't get why people seem to think Lewis has a better resume than Mayweather. PBF has ATGs on his record like DLH, Hatton and then a lot of quality fighters like Baldomir, Judah, Gatti, Castillo, Corrales etc. Plus, he was undefeated. Lewis has two huge names on his record: Tyson and Holyfield. But everyone knows that they were both pretty washed-up by that stage, and that Tyson went on to lose to an Irish tinker who fights like an inebriated robot (ie. Kevin McBride) shows that he was well and truly gone off by the time Lewis fought him. Those victories count for little. Lewis does have several good fighters on his record, like Briggs, Golota, McCall, Botha whom he beat decisively. All in all, PBF edges him out. Taking both ability and achievements into account, PBF should go down as a significantly mroe accomplished ATG, and when he beats Marquez and cleans out WW a second time (which I think probably will happen) he'll be out-of-sight.
Please Lewis level of opposition shits all over Floyd's. The only ATG floyd has is DLH and he was past his prime. Hatton isn't an ATG. In fact Hatton isn't an A level fighter, specially at 147 where he was almost beaten by Collazo(but imo Collazo did won).
DLH looked damned close to his prime in that fight. His jab was back, he was throwing quick flurries of punches, his guard was solid. He ran out of steam early, which reflected his age; but apart from that he looked good. It's still a much more credible victory than Lewis' beating of Ol' Molyfield and a bloated and deteriorated Tyson. I would class Hatton as a fringe ATG for dominating LWW for several years in Tszyu-like fashion. If you want to call Tszyu an ATG, Hatton is too.
bull****...he was never even a unified champ...much less undisputed champ... he held 1 title in each division...and fought absolute **** competition :rofl:rofl
