I know the feeling, mate. I know it's very early days in gloves era but I don't see any thing really in Corbett.
LaMotta is in my top 20 all time MWs, but I otherwise agree with your post, he can be overrated, imo.
Harry Greb: he's the greatest MW of all time but we've never seen him....................no, just no *awaits onslaught of arrows*
Dempsey, Tunney, Marciano comes to mind. Marciano is probably the worst boxer ever to hold the heavyweight world title.
Yours, I think. I've never understood that reasoning. Let's say you DID see him, and his style looked flawed to you or you didn't like it. You'd still have ro acknowledge the scalps the man collected, at more than one weight no less. Look at what he did in just 1919, for example. That's a full career for most. To see that documented body of work and to dismiss it outright simply because you haven't been able to lend your own keen eye to the appraisal seems not only silly but massively egotistical.
Max Baer, now I know not everybody rates him but plenty do. Maybe it’s just me but I just don’t see it. All I see is a tough guy with a solid chin and a big right hand. Now I never boxed so I bow to the more technically knowledgable posters on here which are many but please show me the little nuances and subtleties about his game which I may be missing. All I see is a big unskilled indisciplined plodder who lacked footwork, a jab, feints and even his power was overrated to me. He landed an untold amount of bombs onto Carnera and Schmeling and gave them a merciless beating yet they were both still on their feet at the end. I just don’t see it.
Hello Troll. Agreed. We dont have footage of his fights but we do of others he did beat and we also know what fighters that saw him said about him etc. Hes number 1 at MW all time and possibly the best ever p4p.
