Since Cintron is out of the fight. Who can we realistically expect to fight Williams by Feb. 2nd? Judah turned it down. De La Hoya is set for May. Cotto is waiting on the winner of next week's fight. Mayweather won't even think about it. Margarito is rumored to fight Castillo. Clottey is scheduled to fight Shamone Alvarez in December. Collazo?? Quintanta?? anyone else that would make sense?
IBO champ Isaac Hlatswayo. Low Risk defence, but Isaac is a handy fight and he has a little bit of a name around the traps plus its a unification of sorts.
honestly I'd like to see a rematch against Margarito. Margarito fighting Castillo is shameful, and the first fight was a close one so i think it would be competitive once again.
Why? So Floyd wont have to fight him in the future? Why move up when you can dominate a division? As for future fighters for Williams. The Judah rumor about turning it down I believe is bull****. Hes been slated to fight Quintana for a week now. Its even been up on boxrec for a week. Williams can fight Collazo, rematch Margo I guess, but the fight wont be any different. After that, Williams has a legit excuse for a Mayweather fight.
I think Cintron can't do any type of sparring until march...so that means his training won't start until March. Which means the fight itself would take another 2-3 months to allow Cintron time to train.
Lets hope he gets a serious challenger for that HBO tripleheader. He won't get the elite welters yet, if at all, but there are still some nice possible challengers since the division is pretty deep. I wouldn't mind seeing Williams in with Clottey, Collazo, Quintana, or even a rematch with Margarito. These guys won't bring the true big money fights he would want but they make for nice fights. This might be an ongoing problem for Williams that might force him to move up in weight. He's too dangerous for his current name value to secure many elite type opponents. I woulnd't be surprised if Williams if fighting at jr middle or even middleweight in the next year or two.
He should stay where he is and hold on, he'll get big fights eventually and at welterweight I think he'll beat anybody put in front of him. 6ft 1, over 100 punches thrown per round, plenty of speed, 79 inch reach....beat that at welterweight, it's unlikely.
