    He was actually pretty capable.

You could even argue that he was the best current belt holder apart from Wald.

    Chagaev was better.

    Facts, Byrd is criminally underrated.

He was fine. You could argue that Wlad v Ibragimov should have been for the lineal belt. He did have a VERY short career though so if you want to go by resume I guess hes in the running.

Chagaev did more on paper, but you could argue that Ibragimov was better head to head.

What I am saying is that he wasn't half bad.

It's gotta be my man Roy, he didn't even defend the title. Still love him to death though

Byrd paid the price for fighting at hw though: he had 2 hip replacement s and two shoulder replacement s and neuropathy in his toe. It's safe to say he doesn't compete anymore

He was not the worst. He beat Ruiz who fought everyone close even if he was a winnable fight. RJJ was just there to check it off the bucket list so when he died he wouldn't regret not trying to get a HW belt which was probably a dream. Its regretful he didn't stay at HW but at the same time he was a legendary LHW who had Tarver to fight who held 2 belts at that time. Maybe if RJJ had cleaned out LHW he'd have stayed at HW but I can't blame him for that even if I personally wish he'd made a different choice.

Byrd was a great, great fighter who more than held his own at heavyweight ... even in his loss to Ike after getting hit from a monster shot he got up to fight ... I can without question see him decisioning Deontae Wilder who wouldn't lay a glove on him ...
