Oi! You know what? Make the fight. :yep Even the Khan version of Barrera will give Hatton a bodypunching clinic. Make it a 138 catchweight.
Both were great body punchers, Hatton went there more consistently, that was his main thing but I think Barrera threw his with better technique & much better placement.... MAB really was superb with that left to the ribs, was he Chavez good ?... no... but he was certainly one of the very best of the era.
Discluding a slightly shot and disinterested Tszyu and a very shot and disinterested (and blown up) JLC, name the hardest man Ricky beat. "Hard" in the Micky Ward sense of the word. What, Tackie maybe?
Phillips (40y) and Tackie who are both tougher than Micky Ward. Hatton struggled with his usual tactics against the stronger Tackie and was forced to box to the surprise of the British commentators. It was a very tough fight for Hatton.
Hatton wrote in his 2005 book that Tackie was the hardest (i.e. toughest) guy he had been in with. Stats back that up as well, 11 losses, never stopped..... in with some pretty heavy hitters. Phillips was the hardest one punch hitter he faced, he nearly put Hatton to sleep in the 4th round. Tszyu was no doubt heavier handed, but he seemed immune to anything coming his way, 'cos let's face it, Kostya beat the **** out of him until he had nothing left! It was one of those performances where someone goes beyond their best, never to be repeated.
Those versions of the men you mentioned, whether shot or not are 3x the fighter Ward ever was. I liked his spirit too, he was a warrior but he wasnt on Hatton`s level.... thats why Ward`s boxing limit was losing 2-1 (should`ve been 3-0) to Arturo Gatti & Hatton`s limit was losing twice to - at the time when the fights took place - the undisputed p4p top fighters on earth, FMJ & Pacman.
