Who's better for Calzaghe's legacy? RJJ or Pavlik

Pavilks only significant achievement is beating J.Taylor.

 

Both.

 

He is a few levels above Pavlik and he will get no credit for beating RJJ.

When you are as good as Calzaghe is difficult to improve legacy.

He should just go for the money.

 

Well since J.Taylor struggled to a tight and boring points win over an old BHOP based on that only result we have enough to put Tayler in the HOF.

Pavlik beat Taylor who beat BHOP so Pavlik inherits all the glory of BHOPs record? This is your argument?

 

Both, I agree with Asterion. Granted Calzaghe gets past RJJ, and a showdown is in order for Joe and Kelly; If Calzaghe were to fight and beat Pavlik pre-Abraham, as opposed to Kelly fighting and beating Abraham, I think history would look at Calzaghe favorably for beating Pavilk. Detractors would have little to detract if Kelly Pavlik fights, and beats Abraham, setting up a bout between Joe and Kelly.

In short; If Pavlik beats Abraham, it sets up a super fight, and would give more credence to Joe Calzaghe via a win against Pavlik at 168. Pavlik would have beat Taylor twice, Miranda, and then a dangerous, hard hitting foe in Abraham. Less chance of the skeptics claiming Pavlik was "green", etc.

As of right now I'd rather see Calzaghe-Pavlik versus Calzaghe-RJJ, or Pavlik-Abraham, but if Calzaghe insists on fighting RJJ next, hopefully he will fight Pavlik for his retirement party, granted Pavlik wins against Abraham.

 

Both are quite bad, but for different reasons. However, there are some positives also.

RJJ: Positives: ATG, by some considered the best SMW of all time. Something that Calzaghe wants to contest(even if at LHW).
Negatives: RJJ is not only old, but also near total shot. His greatests assets have been taken away by father time;Speed and reflexes. If Calzaghe beats RJJ, people will say that Calzaghe fought a shade, and rightly so.

Pavlik: Positives: Undefeated champ, and one of the highest regarded fighters around 160-175.
Negatives: Pavlik operates now 2 weightclasses below JC, and regardless he is touted very highly, he is still somewhat unproven. Beating him, will say that Pavlik was simply not prepared for an elite fighter, too young, and outweighed also. Right now Pavlik is only dangling from the rope that toutes Taylor as a great fighter(which he isn't).

Unlucky for JC he is either too late or too soon for the great matches.

RJJ will still bring him more imho than anyone as it is - legacywise.

If Pavlik beats on AA and say Bute, then deffinately Pavlik, in the eyes of the general public. However right now he is still relatively unknown to most people. I could be wrong but that is the way I experience it down here in Oz. RJJ is much more well known and therefor probably better for Calzghes ''legacy''. But I belive that Kelly is the way to go. Right now he has the biggest claim to top dog once JC retires. Wot better way to leave than to make the statement that 'hey I'm leavin, and I beat the man that just may well rule this devision for some time after Im gone, on the way out the door'. Brilliant. Better than beating a FORMER champ, ATG or not, he is nowhere near his prime. On paper it may look better, but those who know the game know that it is pretty meaningless. Its like tyson on Lewis's resume, or chavez on ODL's + countless others. These kind of decisions are usually frowned upon by the intelligent majority. If he is game and thinks that he can hang in there with kelly, I would much preffer to see him duke it out with the ghost.

 

I might add that every time Kessler wins he enhances Calzaghe's legacy. :yep

 

it is joe`s last fight and he has wanted a fight with jones for years.the money is there for jones .i think he is doing the right thing and kessler can fight pavlik to prove that calzaghe would of beat pav.
