If there was no mandatory 8 count, Pac would've mudered JMM, If its a "fighting for your life situation"... The counts gives you time to recuperate. I'd have Lopez and Pac to go with me.:hey
Very, very difficult comparison. Close. I lean to Lopez. But how do we know he wouldn't fail when confronted with a composite puncher like Pacquiao? We really, really don't. Marquez, in this new incarnation, which I think IS better than the original version, LOOKS easier to hit, but Lopez would occasionally come in head on and fail to ditch the jab - now what about a lightning fast power puncher sending over a killing left from the southpaw stance? We just don't know. Two of my favourites, I lean to Lopez, but Marquez has proven himself against better men and should not be dismissed.
I didn't mean fighting for their lifes, I mean a boxing match under boxing rules. And Marquez schooled him twice.
No, he really really didn't "school" him at all. Both fights were very, very close. How anyone could view either fight as a "schooling" is bizarre.
subjective. despite hitting pacquiao with the cleaner punches, marquez still got hit with plenty of leather. these guys are as evenly matched as you get. did'nt you have pacquiao winning the 2nd one in the polls afte that fight? back to topic, i'm probably one of the few who think marquez is'nt that far off from lopez ability wise.
yes its close,Lopez was great but he didnt faced the competition JMM has faced,Lopez didnt have fighters as good as pac and barrera in his weightclass he had two very good fighters one division above in Carbajal and Gonzalez but he never moved up to face them.
yeah, i think the OP meant P4P and H2H at the same time. if it's only H2H, jmm would massacre the smaller lopez.
This question simply isn't fair. The divisions Marquez has fought at are historically FAR more stacked than the wasteland Straw-weight division Lopez fought at, therefore you can't really compare the two against the competition around their weight. If you're asking who is the more skilled fighter, I'd say Lopez, thouh both have advantages over the other(Marquez being a better brawler, Lopez a better pure boxer with a better control of pace and range). Marquez is more proven against top competition, but he's also more proven to be flawed stylistically.
Lopez was better defensively, better footwork and upper-body movement as well. And I don't believe Pacquiao is really competent enough as a counter-puncher to worry about a fighter of his abilities hurting Lopez with power shots the way you suggested.
True. His opposition was very poor for someone so often referred to as an ATG, but I wouldn't have favored either of those two over him, that's for sure. Guys like Jung-Koo Chang, Hilario Zapata, and Yoko Gushiken were better than either of those two, though not as popular. All 3 would've given Lopez very interesting bouts. I don't think I'd directly favor him over any of them.
