i lay my vote down on vargas. in his prime he was a monster until he ran into a brick wall named tito, and well, dlh. skills wise they are very much alike.. both are methodical stalkers. but i think prime vargas was more talented. he was just unlucky that he was rushed early in his career against the very elite. cotto is fortunate tito aint around and his management is wiser in the sense that they are taking things slow.
too early to tell on Cotto IMO. Prime Vargas was a throwback type of fighter, he woulda fit right in with fighters in the 50's and 60's.
Cotto could be the next Vargas if he takes a prolonged beating at the hands of the welterweight elite.
Vargas easily. He was technically sound, good power, good chin - Seriously, he was brilliant fighter. It's a shame his prime was too soon and too short. Cotto is 'good'. Still needs to prove himself though. Right now, he doesn't coem close to Vargas.
Let's hope Cotto doesn't end up as Vargas did at such a young age. His next few fights will answer a lot of questions.
Vargas best win was a clear victory over a arguablly unbeaten Ike Quartey who Vargas actually outjabbed. Cottos best win is a win over of Zab Judah coming off 2 losses and low blowed him twice badly when he was losing.
Vargas, fought prime Wright and Ike, Cotto's best wins Mosley and Zab, prime for prime Vargas by KO at 154
I'm going with Cotto, Vargas fought Tito too early but that's how boxing should be putting good fighters too fight good PPV money spent, now and days too much cherry picking, Trinidad vs Vargas one of best fights I've seen.
