I was reading the comments and thinking it was some sort of ****** convention, then I saw it was 2007
no it wouldn't you stupid **** prime cotto was at 147 and vargas at 154. vargas was bigger stronger and faster than margarito.
I would have loved this fight to happen around the 150lbs mark. I agree Vargas is a better version of Margo but he would apply less pressure and Vargas did nothing spectacular he had solid all around skills good fundementals and good power an average chin with a high threshold for pain. Extremely similar to Cotto except for all the **** Cotto gets for being "slow" he was probably faster than Vargas though Vargas was clearly the bigger man. It would have been an excellent fight for sure.
Ever hear of Shane Mosley? I'd say H2H, Vargas might have been the more all around dangerous fighter, but I think Cotto is more accomplished at this stage. EDIT: atsch My bad. Still an interesting question.
Vargas would never get on his bike though. I think Vargas would KO Cotto at 154 but that's not Cotto's prime weight. P4P I think Vargas is still better.
Prime Vargas and i feel he was to young to face Tito when he did, but props to him for not ducking Tito!
He was very young, and still gave Tito all he could handle. Cotto wouldn't have lasted very long against Tito.
That's a fair assessment though if Vargas would have utilized that imaginary bike after tasting Tito's power he might have outboxed him? p4p its hard to say, I actually think Cotto's more versitile while Vargas had the better tools. They are very comprable.
THIS^! Cotto took his only two beatings like a man and avenged one. He did not have to bulk up on roids and act like a thug to make his mark as a great fighter. Cotto has fought some ATG's in his career and has had the longevity to battle through wins and loses. Even though I believe Cotto will go down historically as the more accomplished and better of the two, I also believe Vargas beats Cotto if they ever would have fought. Vargas has that relentless, iron willed, power punching style that matches up badly for Cotto.
