His career is fine, he ruined his legacy in the eyes of many.

I wasn't talking to you, and I'm not anymore.

Do you ever get tired of typing the same **** over and over?

IMO Mike Tyson Tommy Morrison and Riddick Bowe wasted their god given talents.
Mike Tyson by being a touch crazy and if prepared right should never have lost to Douglas. I think Tyson was suffering with depression or similar at that time.
Riddick Bowe for being scared to death of Lennox Lewis and getting so fat between fights he looked like a giant walrus.
Tommy Morrison for being the big I am playboy movie star before he had achieved anything and forgetting to use a nodder which banned him from the sport basically.
Oh yes that obnoxious little masturbation stain Usman Ahmed the short career he has had was wasted by posing as a complete chav spending more time giving it the big I am and dancing around like a dick than he did in the ring getting destroyed in a round what a waste of space that gimp is. (Or maybe I just can't stand the little weasel).

and Mayweather, The man could have been great, destined for the Taxi driver's hall of fame. Yet he wasted his life pining for a Mayweather loss and a Margarito win. Sad, sad, sad.

With Cubans, it's because they come too old and on top of that, because they get to experience all the excesses of life we take for granted. Imagine you grew up in communist Cuba and are then suddenly given the ability to do everything the western world has to offer - money being no object to it - hard to imagine too many people would be that different.

On top of that, none of them speak English and their style is not casual-friendly so they don't crossover well. The only fans they speak the same language as are the other Spanish-speaking fans, who are all vociferously nationalist in their support of fighters. Peurto Ricans supports Puerto Ricans, Mexicans support Mexicans etc.

Ortiz. The other guys reached championship level.

As for why, you've gotta understand the cultural differences- pro boxing is a business, and these guys are from Cuba. They weren't ever taught the business of pro boxing growing up. Not only were they not taught about that; they also weren't raised to care about style points or entertainment- it was only winning, period. Creating a persona, building a fanbase, etc- those are completely foreign concepts.

Combine that with the signing bonuses they get once they go pro and the sales pitch of promoters wooing them, and you've got the perfect recipe for skewed perceptions of what the boxing business is like, what sells, and their name value in such an environment.

It's going to take some real promotional skill and patience to deal with them and maximize their careers. I don't blame the Cubans- it is what it is- but promotional skill and patience isn't something in huge supply these days even if fighters play their cards right. These guys weren't taught that. They were highly successful under their old ways as amateurs, and don't see the incentive to change their approach now.

Oh don't get it twisted man. I have a massive amount of respect for Ike. He is one of the most under rated heavies around.
He has a laser like accuracy in his jab, could hit like a truck and had a great chin. More importantly, both Ike and Tua had stamina that is unheard of in modern heavyweight boxing.

However, if you are to claim Ike ruined Tua, then you can also apply the same logic to Tua ruining Ike.

The thing with both Tua and Ike, I think they were destined for greatness. Unfortunately, both fell short through poor management.

I remember reading that Ike's mother didn't help with the mental health issues, as she had a superstitious belief that the demons were chasing her son...
Unsure about the truth in that, but it is mentioned more than once.

On another note, heres an extract from an interview with Tua. When I spoke to him in person in 2008, he said he enjoyed the fight with Ike like no other. He said he learned round by round and was fighting physically and mentally from start to finish. Tua is a very humble guy who has nothing but respect for Ike.

No, I'm not, his legacy is not great. Could've been so much better.
