Would you all rate Cotto if he drew with S Williams :patsch, looked lucky against Tiberi :barf, lost to Thadzi , twice couldnt beat M Griffin :yep. Was behind on points against Nunn, and had how many SDs :think. Oh and was a proven cheat :-(.

If you want to see an eye opener just look at Toneys ATG time when he was SMW champ or what Toney did at LHW.
Here look at the SMW days below

look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.
(this post was improvised from ESB great Silencer, on one of his great threads)and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was alledgedly weight weakend, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.

    :hi:

How can Toney not be an ATG?! He won titles in how many weight divisions? How many times? How many HOF has he already beaten?

Anyone who thinks hes not an ATG must not be a fan of boxing.

Toney has tarnished himself a lot in the last 5 or 6 yrs

Twice caught cheating, got fat, talks so much unbacked up **** and got embarrassed in UFC

he has also had a long title drought

Cotto as Bailey pointed out has a very deep resume, he also has gotten several titles at several weights and continues to get big fights

    Duran has a case for being the GOAT@LW atleast top 3, while most people wouldn't even put Toney in their top 10 Middleweights. Your failed defelections in trying to put the likes of SRR/Ali/Duran in to the argument are pathetic and here's why;

Robinson has losses but when it's all said and done it's almost unanimous that people agree he's the best fighter to ever lace them them up.

Ali had losses but when it's all said and done he's probably the GOAT @ HW

Duran had losses but when it's all said and done he's probably one of the GOAT @ LW

Toney had losses but when it's all said and done he had some good wins (see Nunn and Jirov) was a multiple weight champion and is probably a lock for the HOF and that's about it.

Give me the names of the fighters who he beat that you consider to be soo impressive? Nunn in 1991? Jirov in 2003?

As mentioned before everything above LHW is suspect with Toney (and that's me assuming he's not been juicing his whole career) at those heavier weights his career is marked with controversy.

Did you just try to compare Peter v Toney to Ali v Norton? :dead:dead

We can argue about how good the Jirov win was, no doubt it was a good performance but what there should be no debate on is Holyfield being done by the time Toney beat him. Right before they fought Holyfield had dropped a decision to Chris Byrd right after then fought he lost to Larry Donald so you're going to sit here and argue one of Toney's best wins was against a shot to **** fighter who lost the fight before and after they met up?

Holyfield has never been cought roiding (though it does look like he's been using) to my knowledge anyway, and Roy Jones also gets **** for juicing as does Shane Mosley I don't selectivly choose who I criticize for their steroid abuse but James Toney is the only MUTILPLE steroid cheat that I know of and you saying you 'don't care' about steroid cheats in boxing shows what kind of boxing fan you are :dead:patsch

    So from your last post we've found out several things;

    • You condone steroid abuse by boxers.
    • You think steroid abuse is a part of the history of boxing so you accept it as being legitimate.
    • You're a fanboy who puts James 'i'll eat everything in sight' Toney on the same level as the likes of Robinson Ali and Duran
    • You're an utter disgrace.
    Did I miss anything?

Was Toney the number 1 in any division he ever fought in ?? I dont think he was.

Talent doesnt equal greatness. It needs more.

Losing every minute of every round to the middleweight Roy Jones is no shame , but he should have done better.

I think Toney's prime started around McCallum I and ended some point during his lhw run. It's hard to determine when due to the fact he was cutting corners in camp and turning in lacklustre performences.

Toney gets way overrated and i dont know why all he did was throw away his career he is the biggest waste of talent in the history of boxing so in that way he's an ATG but other than that wtf did he do.

    :hat
