Hopkins got a better deal to fight De la Hoya didnt he?

Roy put down a serious offer but Hopkins chasing a fight with De la Hoya was way smarter. Better money, arguably more interest from the casual fan and an easier fight.

Hopkins tried for years, but Roid kept running.

"60/40 I whoop yo azz!" - RJJ Hops - too stubborn/dumb to jump at the opportunity to shut Jones up = both of em. Omg they ducked each other!

Roid even ducked Michael Nunn by giving up his belt when Nunn was next in line. Then after Nunn got shafted and was out of the way Jones all of a sudden wanted his belt back heh.

Nah Roy kicked Toney's ass, and Michalezewski didn't want to fight Roy, or he would have come to the U.S, then lost to a guy Roy dominated.:hi:

60-40 and I kick your ass! Seems pretty simple, If Hopkins thought he could win the fight, he would have taken it like he has done in the past.

I think it was more about pride and their egos than about money. But i agree with you, it´s both fault.

Jones was the bigger fighter at this time and hopkin is not known by any one except people who are interested in boxing. It was only right for jones to get more money, Hopkins wasnt bringing in ****

They were both being asses about it, but Hopkins has to take a bigger portion of the blame here - about 60:40 I'd say:D

Roy was a bigger name, Roy was more highly regarded as a boxer, Roy already had a good legacy and Roy had already tapped that ass.

It was up to Hopkins to try and stake a claim that he was the man, not the other way round.

That said, if Roy didn't have any ***** in him, he would have taken the 50:50. But as we know, Roy was a 'little' reluctant.

It was jones's fault, he did not want to get back in the ring with bernard as he know that b-hop had the skill and intelligence to beat him.

the only reason bernard hopkins is fighting pavlik is so he can fight roy jones.

go to 5.30 on the vid and around then he pretty much says he still wants to fight roy jones.

both are equally to blame both wanted it but not enough to get down of their perches and put their egoes aside hopkins i agree should have taken 60:40 as it would have been his biggest payday yet but if tito had beaten bernard roy would have fought tito in a heartbeat at a reasonable split and catchweight

    Equal I suppose.

I mean, Hopkins, despite being the lower rated fighter, lower named fighter, and not being a draw at all had an ego attack and demanded a 50-50 split on the purse.

However, Jones wanted 60-40 I believe, entirely to satisfy his own ego.

Still they both lost out in the end, cause that fight woulda been huge and earned them both an absolute fortune either way.

Yes this I can agree with and the other main issue here was the catchweight 168 sounds reasonable but would Roy of that time era want to have lose 7 more pounds and possibly worry about feeling alittle weight drained?.......Only Roy knows that answer.
