KG is right. A real boxing fan knew it was not gonna be a war but a chess match. I was so mad when this fight got signed, along with the Hatton fight, and Baldomir. HA i know i prolly sound like a PBF hater but instead of Baldomir, DLH and Hatton how about if his schedule was like this. Margarito- Shut up the hype. He would beat MArgarito with ease IMO. Would have looked way better than Baldomir. Mosley- He beat DLH twice and had just gotten out of two dominating performances against Vargas at 154. I forget if he had just beaten Collazo too. Vernon Forrest- He would have beaten the man at 154 which DLh wasnt. I can see why he wouldnt think of this fight due to alot of risk and very low reward. Dont you think this would make his resume look better. Look at his opponents now. Baldomir disappeared really. DLH well is fighting a former lightweight and Hatton is fighting Lazcano and is just a sweet KO waiting to happen. Not by Lazcano though. It would be so satisfying to have Malignaggi do it. Oh man that would make my day.
I think the wins over DLH and Hatton look great on his resume as it is. My criticism was only about the way he won the fight (which was the fight to save boxing.) But I do agree he won. I just still feel rubbed the wrong way about how he won. I guess I hold this fight above any other "championship" bout because of the size of the fight. I feel comfortable with the decision but Floyd waiting the last ten seconds to stand and trade is bull****. Maybe this was the only way he could win which gives more credit to DLH not being past prime than most people would agree to admit.
there is no size difference de la hoya is longer while floyd is wider. just because oscar walks around heavier doesnt mean hes a bigger man it just shows his lack of dedication to the sport.they both started at roughly the same weight.saying floyd is smaller is simply an easy way for floyd fans to defend his hit and run style or holding gloves while he is on the inside
Mayweather not standing toe to toe has nothing to do with him being past his prime. Make no mistake, he IS past it. At 147, Prime DLH would have beaten that version of Mayweather. A skilled big man almost always beats a skilled little man. I think Mayweather may be a better overall fighter, but not at 147 and certainly not at 154. If Mayweather had stayed in the pocket against DLH, we would be talking about Mayweather's first loss. I am simply saying this. Mayweather should be fighting the best fighters available. He isn't always doing this. But no matter who he fights, he owes it to himself and his fans to do his best to WIN. Entertaining won't be important if he loses on the way to doing it. Everyone remembers the fights between Morales and Barrera. They also remember that MAB won 2 out of 3 of those bouts and count it against Morales legacy wise.
ODH was 160 fight night easy. He was DRAINED at the weigh in. You are telling me he only put on 4 pounds..lol...ODH is not in that kind of shape. He is no gym rat.
Floyd would of beat the more limited so called prime ODH at 147. He was a completely one handed fighter and totally left hook dependent. He had all the same weaknesses and had worse defense then he showed in the floyd fight. ODH never showed that kind of defense EVER in any fight. You guys crack me the **** up.
Oscar is 2 1/2 inches taller, has a longer reach, and also outweighed Floyd by 4 lbs. at the weigh in. Oscar is clearly bigger than Floyd. This really isn't even debateable.
Yah....no. DLH had 2 fights at 130. (Contrary to popular belief, DLH did NOT start at 130, but 135. He just dropped down to fight at 130 for a title) Mayweather fought over half his career there. DLH is bigger than him. It's not a lack of dedication that he has moved up in weight. It's just how he is built. DLH fought as many fights at 147 ALONE as Mayweather has fought at 135-154. He is not only taller, but wider and simply larger. He can carry more weight without it affecting his performance than Mayweather can. I don't care to defend his style. I don't think it needs defending.
Are you a ****ing crackhead? ODH has fought at middleweight. He has been fighting other bigger guys at 154 for years now. He walks around no less then 170. Floyd did not even make the ****ing 154 limit at the weigh in or on fight night. ODH is longer and wider then Floyd, you ****ing guys are a joke.
No, they normally don't even check his weight. He usually keeps himself guarded before his fights, and doesn't like any mores distractions than he already has. The last time they weighed Oscar in on fight night, it was the Mosley rematch and he weighed 158. Mayweather didn't weigh 148, that wouldn't have made sense. He weighed in at 150... why would he have lost 2 pounds? He didn't have to weigh in at 150. Mayweather weighed 150 on fight night in a couple of his Welterweight fights. I wouldn't be surpised if Mayweather weighed more than 152 on fight night, but if so... probably not much more. I wouldn't be suprised if he stayed at 150 either... but he sure didn't weigh less, as it wouldn't make sense for him to drop weight after the weigh in.
I think you crack yourself up. He wasn't one handed, just much better with that hand. His footspeed was good enough to keep him in a fight with 147 Mayweather. His defense isn't going to matter as much because he would take a pucnh from Mayweather to land his. His handspeed was different 10 years ago than it is now, and so were his reflexes. Did he have the same weaknesses? Yes, but he had more strengths. Just as Mayweather has the same weaknesses now as he did at 130, but not as many strengths.
Yet, he only wins by a SD that many feel could have gone either way against an Oscar De La Hoya who was 10 years removed from being #1 pd 4 pd, only had 1 fight in over 2 years, and was coming off of a torn rotator cuff and forearm?:huh
