Agreed. I do think it sets Berto back a little further promotion-wise for the time being, unless he immediately rematches Ortiz.

    Berto.
JuanMa can still get that big fight with Gamboa.

Berto will go back to fighting in undercards.

Berto's losing his 0 is worse.... But JuanMa is a worse loss in general as it was someone who is considered below him and it was a KO.

Whereas Ortiz has always been considered as a very talented boxer who can punch!

... Who ever is unable to bounce back. To me, it seems like Lopez is eager to get right back in there for a rematch (watching his post-fight interview). Don't know if he'll be able to win the rematch, though. He just seemed to realize that he had a bad night and wants to prove that that's all it was - a bad night. Berto, on the other hand, looked a little discouraged. Both can still move on and be very successful, despite their losses, and especially if they both can learn some defense (as suggested by an earlier poster).

Of all the L's that occurred recently, I agree with the above statement the most. Kirkland was been suited up for a showdown with the best of a very packed division including Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez, etc. However, losing in the first round by been rocked and knocked down three times against a light hitting, hardly known boxer is a major setback.

To answer the question on this thread however, I would have to say that Berto's loss hurt more than Lopez loss. Eventhough Lopez loss by knock out, he has a big fan base and also happens to be promoted by Bob Arum, who will do what is possible to try to bring him up to the inevitable show down with Gamboa. Moreso, Lopez had already proven himself against very tough opposition and will be easier to promote back into the limelight. Berto, on the other hand, had never fought as great opposition as Ortiz. Moreso, Ortiz was a jr. welterweight coming up a division to face a seemingly stronger fighter but in actuality faired to be the strongest in the ring. To further complicate matters for Berto, he has little fan support and it will be harder to promote back to superstardom. The key for him will be that he either gets an immediate rematch against Ortiz or can have a chance to redeem himself against star fighters coming up from the jr. welterweight division or go up to the jr. middleweight division and prove hiimself there.
