Whos gonna be the best British Fighter from the current New Generation ?

So far...Cleverly, only 23, big imposing, good work rate/stamina loves a tear up, seems to throw caution to the wind but probably has the confidence in his own ability's to do that and likes a challenge.

 

He's only had 11 fights... what an absurd thing to say:verysad

Anyone who beats John Simpson in their 11th fight, even if the decision was controversial, is a massive talent IMO. Simpson was a massive test and Smith did rise to it.

Agree with earlier comment and its something ive always wondered why are british fighters generally unable to move around the weights succesfully?

 

Bob Fitzsimmons didn't seem to have much problem!

 

De Gale looks better with every fight, I think if he doesnt get complacent he can go all the way. Cleverly, Brook and Gavin also to win world title IMO.

 

I can't decide on Degale or Gavin until I've seen them with someone who will test them. Dilks was a small step up for DeGale and he handled it well. I stayed on at Birmingham to watch Gavin and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Sure he looks fast and slick but his last few fights now seemed harder than they needed to be (barring the fight before birmingham). I'm not convinced he's carrying much power, he doesn't plant his feet well enough yet for me, I'd like to see meatier shots instead of scoring shots while he has the low level of opponents. It's all still a bit amateur style. He's a great prospect and I really like the kid though, staying though 6 hours of boxing with no booze or food (or even feckin water!) to watch him shows I am in his corner, I just think we're a little quick to big people up in Britain. The people talking up Bellew for Clev will now be thinking twice for example. Reality check time I think, 'prospect' does not mean 'gonna win a world title'.

 

I like Brook too, but it'll be an alphabet belt if at all. I don't think he'll live with the very top at that weight. He also has a padded record, most of his past opponents lost more than they'd won. And I mean with records like 3wins 100 losses

Just checked on Boxrec, only 8 of his 22 opponents had won more than they lost, compared to 13 of Cleverly's 20 fights. Doesn't that seem high to you?
