Great posting Burt and just this morning I was pondering whether I'd put Pep or Robinson as my greatest boxer of all time and like you it came down to the punching power.

*As kind of a side note here I recall a Boxing Illustrated interview with old Arch and they asked him if he thought Robinson was the greatest ever. Boy did Archie get testy and no he didn't, what he wanted to say and be asked was if he was the greatest but the scribe wasn't even considering it.

I think he ducked Burley. The fight was always there to be made. He was too pretty.

SRR was pricier per lb moving up from welter to middleweight his record was deep and wide, he started to dip around the 1st Turpin fight which he avenged but his record was something like 138-2-2 pretty impressive, he failed at light heavyweight .....Archie was also amazing and he managed himself pretty great at light heavyweight beating some ATG lightheavys and beat heavyweight sporadically and then he moved up more into the heavyweights defending his light heavyweight title as well, he beat the top rated heavy's while light heavyweight champ and was on an almost 50 fight win minus a disputed SD that he avenged by KO and a DQ streak leading to Marciano

I would have to rate SRR as the best per lb but like Burt said Willie Pep is close just could whack like SRR who is #1

I'd say it was compliment enough to both of these great fighters that there is a debate as to who was the greater of the 2.

Ray, over Archie by a hair, was tearing it up from Jump.Archie took a little while, but once on track, didn't really come down until real late in his career, when he lost to Cassius Clay.

Moore is arguably the greatest 175pounder.
Robinson arguably the greatest at 160 and 147pounds.
SRR does not have the losses on his record that Moore has.

Ray is the greater fighter and possibly the greatest ever.

Moore fought considerably better competition but have to go w Ray. That being said I'd pick Charles over either. Langford too.
