Whos greater Chavez or Jones ?

I rate 30 odd fighters higher than RJJ, and to keep the word special, I would say we only see a great fighter come along every fours years or so.

If Queensberry Rules has been going seriously since the mid 1880's, that makes about 30 odd fighters, great; thus RJJ is a borderline case....

 

Ok, fair enough. I thought you were implying that RJJ would be outside the Top 100. I actually think the word "ATG" should be applied more selectively also - perhaps to the Top 60 or so. I just don't feel comfortable calling someone like Mosley an all-time great.

 

I am not real sure Jones is a top 30 fighter imo.

Perhaps top 50 imo. At the least, but most of the guys from the 30's and 40's are over Jones imo like Ross, Canzi, McLarin, Ambers maybe, Armstrong ete.

 

Hard question. Roy did not fight everyone and Chavez did. Roy at his best could have beaten anyone, but he didn't fight everyone. Saying he could is just what I think. Chavez did fight everyone and had his draw with Pernell and lost to Delahoya etc. Beat Meldrick. Chavez put more into the sport and fought the greats.

Don't worry about PP, Jones is one of his favorites.

 

But Toney/Hopkins trump anyone on Chavez's resume that hes actually beat. Chavez didn't fight a few himself, McGirt for 1. No one fights everyone, its just Jones is more under the spotlight, legions of haters repeating myths leads him to be underrated.

Jones is a once in a lifetime fighter, better than Sugar Ray Robinson in many ways and operating on a whole other level to even greats like Chavez/Hagler/Armstrong

The whole phrase is not substantially less embarassing.

Jones is maybe better at rapping, but that's about it.

 

What do you mean "maybe" better? Have you ever heard Robinson rap? It's dreadful. "Rap, rap, rap cap nap. Rappity rappity rap, cap a nap nap flap." Awful.

RJJ H2H is so vastly superior as a rapper that it's ridiculous. It's like comparing the entire Sugar Hill Gang to Debbie Harry in Rapture. :bart I can't believe I even have to debate this again. Last time the thread went 34 pages.
