funny how you judge floyd for fighting fighters "from smaller weight divisions" but forget to mention that floyd started at super feather. his career didn't start with gatti, only his mainstream $$$ career did.
Floyd fought all 50 fights in his country. That's a stain for me. Duran fought much harder opposition too.
Does not matter. He still had that luxury that other fighters don't have. It's been proven time and time again in sports that it matters.
the only thing that's been proven in boxing is that if you fight in the US, you get career-defining fights. floyd fought 50 there.
Floyd filled out into a natural welterweight during his 20s. He refused to fight Hatton at 140, and couldn't even make the catch weight of 145 for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight. Juan Manuel Marquez moved up TWO weight divisions to face Floyd. Roberto Duran was naturally smaller than Floyd. He started at 118, and filled out in his 20s to become a natural lightweight, where he had a great run. He fought bigger men at welterweight, won a world title at middleweight against a much bigger man, and even fought competitively in his 40s at light heavyweight.
i'm not defending floyd v. marquez regarding floyd's weight for the fight, but do you really believe the hatton fight would have played out any different?
Mayweather would have never taken a fight against a naturally bigger ATG where he was not the favorite, unlike Duran who fought Leonard, Hagler, Hearns. Durán is far greater than him as a boxer, as a competitor too.
Obviously Duran. I'm not a Floyd hater, I respect his achievements. They just don't even come close to Duran's. If you're in doubt, ask yourself who'll be most revered in 50 or even 100 years time.
@Aussie Invader what's hard to understand about my point!? Duran began his career at 118. You're showing yourself up with your lack of knowledge. Now imagine Floyd moving up to 160 and fighting the likes of Iran Barkley.
Duran was dedicated until he pulled off the greatest boxing win of all time, of course he had his wobbles in the motivation department at times.
