I don't think so. And Duran also never showed any quit in any other fight. The turn around against Barkley, for example, was utterly epic. Like Liston against Ali and Tyson against Holy, we will never know for sure why they acted like they did. One can only guess. My guess is that Duran felt he would lose and that the animosity and rivalry against Leonard just wouldn't let him do that fair and square. I can see no other reasonable explanation (no, he wasn't about to **** himself). And I think that's a truly despicable action, especially after the way he insulted Leonard's wife in the build up for the first fight. To talk thrash like that and then to quit rather than lose a decision...
Clearly Mayweather. Duran fought for 30 years. He was a top fighter for about 10 of those years. He was only average to mediocre for the other 20. Mayweather fought for 20 years. Was a champion for all but his first two years. Never lost. Retired undefeated and on top of the sport.
Did he, though? I know he had much worse losses (16 in fact). How many Hall of Famers did Duran beat? Because Floyd beat Canelo, Pacquaio, Oscar, Cotto, Mosley, Marquez, Hatton, etc., and didn't lose to anyone.
Don't know if Hatton or Balco Shane Mosley make the HOF. Love Hatton, but he was just a one division World champion. Those are dime a million in the history of boxing.
Hands of stone....started at lightweight ......fought all the way up to guys at light heavyweight (Iran Barkley). When Duran unloaded his right hand...game over incredible ferocity in the ring......Duran all the way.....not even close..........
Mayweather started at Super Featherweight and beat guys all the way up to light heavyweight (Canelo). And Mayweather never lost.
Leonard is defintely the best win among their combined wins. The Barkely win is up there as well, everything considered.
Being undefeated doesn't mean you are great. It just means that either you got the benefit of doubt in close fights or you never fought anyone good enough to beat you.
Leonard, DeJesus, Barkley, Cuevas, Buchanan Palomino, Mamby, Ishumatsu, Marcel, Kobayashi are all in or nominated for HOF. Ill include nominated considering Hatton isnt in either and Marcel was a far greater fighter than Hatton. He also beat Castro when he was in his mid to late 40s and Castro would win a title the next year. Guys like Vilomar Hernadez, Munroe Brooks, Viruet brothers were as good as or better than the likes of guys like Guerrero, Ortiz, Ndou etc who basically won titles because they are in an era where theres 9 titles per division. You also have Moore who had a great early career and was thought to be the next big thing till duran ruined him. Losing doesnt mean much if you fight to your higest level, Floyd did at times but theres a lot of astericks around his opponents when he fought them, past prime, missing weight, catch weight, making them where padded gloves, peds (IV) etc. I take it you dont know Durans era at all and are boxrecing.
Mosley definitely does. He beat prime DLH 2X. Beat the crap out of the boogeyman Margarito. Shane has one of the best resumes ever. He fought everybody.
Canelo = drained Cotto = destroyed and beaten to a pulp by Margarito and Pacquiao Oscar = old and faded (close win or draw) Marquez = missed catchweight, pulled up 2 weight classes Pacquiao = caught using illegal IVs, injured Hatton = good win, but Hatton didn't belong at 147 Mosley = old, but good win
His steroid scandal might be what prevents him though. He was on it when he beat DLH in the rematch. Who really knows what other fights. He may have fought everyone, but he lost to most. After beating Oscar the first time legitimately (Without PEDS), his next meaningful win was Margarito. That's a HUGE gap. I personally don't think much of his wins over Fernando Vargas. El feroz was essentially shot by then.
