Roy has fought on way too long, what is happening now and been happening over the last 8 years does not take away the great things he did accomplish.

Roy had titles in 4 different weight classes, beat something like 20 world champions along the way that people like you call "taxi drivers" First man in over 100 years to hold a championship from MW to HW. Then dropped back down from HW in his very next fight and beat the #1 LHW and dangerous opponent in Tarver... another feat that gets overlooked... How many can you name that did that? In hindsight, it was just as impressive as his victory over Ruiz, but doesn't get looked at that way because he looked human for the first time and for good reason.

You can support your boy, without having to discredit Roy unfairly.

Fair points man. I dont wanna knock Roy Jones. I like and respect him but 2 fighters that are greater than him are Mayweather and Hopkins for several reasons. Like you pointed out Roy has done some amazing things in his career just like Floyd has.

But you cant just compare what they have done great, you have to look at their whole career and come up with a balanced argument and that is something people like to avoid, especially when it comes to Roy Jones. Also the fact that he was on steroids is something else that gets overlooked, why? Because people dont like to listen to things they do not like.

I have no problem with you rating Floyd higher, it is so subjective anyway, and as you said both have done great things.

I just feel Roy is a bit greater at this point, but Mayweather has time to pass him.

Dumb ass ******. You shouldnt even be talking about this subject. Look at your username . An damn right Ruiz, hopkins, an toney are better than any win floyd had in his career BY FAR. You go by when a fighter is in his prime. You counting all his recent losses against him says it all about you.

That's dependent on criteria. We've already seen both at their best, and Roy was better. He beat an undefeated Toney when he was regarded as one of the Top 2 P4P fighters in the sport and anyone that knows the real Toney and not the caricature and punch-drunk mockery recognizes him as a definite all-time talent. Hopkins may of been a little green, but it's far preferable to shot -- He didn't lose a fight for another 12 years. All the title belts, defenses, longevity, etc does factor, but it's not as important to me as ability/skill level, best wins and dominance.

    I'd say that's accurate.

    It's a no-brainer. Mayweather.

Jones Jr has ****ed his legacy by fighting on long after he should just have stopped, so standing at the tail-end of both of their careers there can't be a comparison. It's a shame as had Jones Jr stopped at the right time there would be a case for him being the greatest of all time.

like i said before but it went over the ******ed dudes head. Ali fought on longer than he should have. **** he lost to leon spinks. So why do you look at the very tail end of a fighters career

Spot on. They're my 1&2 respectively. Then it is Armstrong and Duran, Leonard, hearns, ali.

    Difficult after that.

Historian Herb Goldman on Roy Jones, Jr:
(Fascinating due to Roy drawing ire out of the old-timer sect for most part)

    http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/w42x-kd.htm

KD -- A couple of years ago you published your own greatest pound-for-pound list in International Boxing digest. You had Roy Jones Jr. at the top of your list. You’ve received much criticism from historians and others—typically older folks—What about Jones’ abilities and accomplishments prompted you to make such a bold statement? And how do you compare greatness in boxers? And would you still put Jones up at the top?

HG -- OK. My ranking of Jones in such a dramatic fashion, had to do not with his accomplishments but simply with his skills. He has more and greater skills than any fighter I’ve ever seen in my life. The way he can hook and go immediately to a straight punch, the way he can fire shots from all angles, his domination of every opponent he faces. I’ve never seen a comparable fighter in my life. I went out on a limb in making that pronouncement at that time. I don’t think I was that overboard. Now it’s true that Mr. Jones’ accomplishments in terms of being in great fights, in terms of being a super-star of his period do not begin to equal his skills. That’s the down side. Of course to make great fights it takes two to tango and Mr. Jones is so far above his competition that there are no great fights out there for him, certainly within his own weight classes. Now in terms of looking at the careers of certain fighters, certainly there are a number of men who outshone him in that respect. But I still maintain that Mr. Jones is the most skilfull, is the most over-powering man, pound-for-pound, in the history of boxing. I don’t think even Sugar Ray Robinson was as dominant over his opposition as Roy Jones has been. That takes nothing away from Sugar Ray. But I have never seen a phenomenon like Roy Jones. Of course Roy Jones knows it, too. He knows what he wants, what he doesn’t want. He’s a star. He won’t fight here. He will fight only here. He’s his own promoter, more or less. So he’s certainly not everyones’ ideal of what a fighter should be. But in terms of skills I think he’s the greatest.

People slate RJJ's legacy, but look at Floyd's legacy since 2007... Abysmal. You don't have to ruin your legacy by getting KO'd, as Floyd is proving. And not accepting the Manny fight has put a MAJOR dampener on Floyd's legacy.

The Hopkins, Toney (especially this victory) and the Ruiz victories are miles in front of Floyd's top 3 victories.

RJJ made WORLD CLASS FIGHTERS LOOK SILLY! Floyd did at the lower weights, but he hasn't done so in years.

And people talk about ages, Floyd's style is built to last. Relying on your speed and reflexes isn't.

MW, SMW, LHW and HW Champ as well? The difference in punching-power from MW to HW is like night and day unlike LW to WW.

Roy wins and it's not even close..
