This is a good post.. But I think Toney is ATG, and rate the win higher probably than you do.

I think it is Roy's best win, with Hopkins a close second.

I don't put too much into the Toney being weight drained argument.. Toney was always a natural LHW, he always had to cut big to get to MW and SMW, it didn't stop him from winning world titles, that excuse was always waiting for Toney when he lost.

Fact of the matter is, he was viewed as a formidable SMW champion, and one of the best P4P fighters in the world when Roy moved up in weight and dominated, Roy showed that he would beat Toney no matter what... I can't think of a single PBF win, that I hold as highly as that one. Moving up in weight, beating one of the P4P very best, in that sort of fashion.

 

This is what I don't get. Floyd beats everyone he faces easy. Everyone. Castillo 1 was the only fight where it wasn't a landslide victory.

Also, keep in mind Roy Jones Jr. has failed drug tests before for PED's.

 

floyd has atg skills but not an atg resume. and its not just about the names of the resume, its how each fighter is valued at the time if you were to think of fighters as stocks whose prices fluctuates.

shane -was p4p #3 but also was like 38 years old when they fought. even in the matchup it was clear that shane lost his physical talent. its a nice name to have on the resume but fact is that shane was shot. he got a good victory versus a killer in margo bc of styles

chico - good victory. one of floyds best wins. when floyd was at 130 he was the man.

JMM - good fight. clearly shows floyds superior ability, but a fight he was expected to win against a smaller opponent. the problem with this fight is that floyd had already competed as high as 154 and JMM was coming up to 147. floyd's body was already built into a true welterweight. if it was a tuneup fight for manny would have been ok. but not sure what you can take away from fighting a 37 year old regardless of how legendary he is..

hatton - again floyd was already settled into a true welterweight and fought up to 154. fighting the smaller hatton was a good figh and a good win bc it was prime hatton, but hatton had already got his head lumped up by loiius collazo lowering his stock. hatton was out on his feet and clearly had problems moving up to 147.


two blemishes on flloyds resume:

-he did not fight the dangerous fights when guys had momentum
-after 140 pounds he fought henry bruseles, demarcus corley which were good wins but didnt have anythign meaningful
-after the de la hoya fight who was shot, and hatton who is a B rated fighter at best (tier 2 with berto, collazo and victor ortiz)
-he then retires for 2 years when margarito, cotto, clottey and manny were all fighting each other
- all the top welterweight get into wars and he fights shane 1 year later after his margarito win who was shot


floyd has some good wins above 140 but nothing great. there is no win on his resume that compares to prime james toney or prime JCC or PRime buddy mcgirt. Pac would have been that name but there is nothing there.

i think at 37 if he beats canelo i would be impressed bc now his legacy can be built into skills and longevity. the younger stronger canelo, even though he is a green champion, would be perceived as a pretty dangerous test for the aging floyd.

 

prime roy was a phenomenon. speed, power and skill rolled into 1

 

The Maquez win and Toney wins are not the same ...Jones went up to super middle to challenge Toney ,Mayweather made JMM come to his weight class and came in over weight .And Toney always had prolems with weight ..That was never the case with Floyd and he took full advantage of that added weight .

 

Floyd is greater

 

Prime Roy was unbeatable, nobody could come close. Mayweather on the other hand was beatable, which was shown by Castillo.

He literally only fights people coming off career wins or successive impressive performances. The only fighter I think he fought after a loss was Judah and I'm not even sure about that. Otherwise, he only fights people with a winning streak.

Those are all TR fighters. Floyd has never done business with Arum since leaving him. Ever. So I can only half agree with these alleged ducks.

I can't stop laughing at the underlined portions. Margarito has a career defining win versus an undefeated Miguel Cotto. Then he's shot? LMAOOOO.....

That's right jackass. Margarito fought Mosley RIGHT AFTER his career-defining victory over Cotto.

By the way, Shane Mosley was ranked #3 PFP when Floyd fought him.

 

He fought Hopkins and Toney and outclassed them.

 

Fought Hopkins when he was a nobody, and Toney was overrated in his prime.
