Yeah why don't you go look at his Boxrec, or look up some of the many threads on here proving how overrated Toney really is.

Sometimes I actually think there is one troll out there who has literally 20-30 accounts and hates the **** out of Mayweather in any debate no matter...

Nice argument. Forget facts, intelligent dialog or the like. Let's just protest what someone else says without any form of intelligent argument. I wouldn't expect any better from someone with the name "floyd_g.o.a.t". So Floyd is the greatest of all time, huh? You obviously need to study the history of the sweet science if you truly believe that.

Have you ever heard the name Sugar Ray Robinson? You know, the guy who was twice Golden Gloves Champion in his amazing, undefeated amateur career. In 1939, Ray won the featherweight Golden Gloves title and in 1940, he won the lightweight title. He finished his amateur career with an official record of 85-0 (69), 40 in the first round. This was at a time when amateur boxing was much like pro boxing, only shorter fights. No headgear or silly rules.

Ray then went on to win his first 40 professional fights, before losing to a much heavier fighter in Jake LaMotta, whom he had already beaten and eventually defeated 5 times! After losing to Jake, Ray went undefeated in his next 93 bouts! Ray had a record of 128-1-2 at one time in his career. He never lost in his prime against a welterweight.

Anyway, I could continue giving you a history lesson on Robinson and many other greats who are better than Floyd, like Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Muhammad Ali, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Harry Greb, etc. I would rather just leave it at this, as I am not accustomed to entering a battle of wits with an unarmed combatant.

Its close..... I think Roy has the better standout wins (Hopkins, Toney) and that Mayweather has a deeper resume.

Roy was more talented, Mayweather had the better craft.

What it comes down to, for me, since they are very equal in terms of everything adding up, is that I think Mayweather was the overall better fighter in the ring, the overall better boxer.

So for me, Mayweather is ever so slightly >>> Roy Jones.

    Just imo

    It's close.

Trying to discredit either guy is pure bull****. You can punch holes into any fighter if you try hard enough, or exaggerate.

Roy's skills were phenomenal. He is easily the best 168'er ever, top 3-5 175'er (top H2H arguably), won a HW title. The HW title is a big deal. Ruiz was not a bum....you do not win any decent version of the HW title a couple times by being a bum. At 175 Roy's belt collection was insane. And, the men he beat were not cab drivers or garbage men....they were former, current and future world champs, and mandatories....reaching that level doesn't mean you're elite, but surely world class or marginally world class, and definitely not a bum. Fact is he was so gifted he made it look too easy which hurts him in some people's eyes/evaluation. He should never have come back down past CW after his move to heavy. Dropping weight like that at mid 30's does take something away from you physically, which was his advantage over everyone. His chin was never glass during his prime...watch fights...sure he didn't get tagged often, but when he was in his prime he handled it fine. Punch resistance can definitely decline, and it did with Roy in a direct parallel with his physical decline. Pretty easy to see. But, his recent losses do not take away from his greatness in his prime.

May was fantastic at 130 and 135, and while people try to rip his 140 and above resume, it is still FULL of world class competition, whom he beat, and a lot of them decisively. He's undefeated and has beaten a ton of good, and great fighters. Whether or not they had to make a seemingly unfair weight, or were coming off a loss, or a little past prime, you still have to beat them, and he did.....and pretty much every guy since Judah was a relevant name, and at least a live dog, and world class. Even if Floyd loses a step or two and drops a few fights in his late 30's, you can't deny he's an ATG.

Roy for me. May has time to close the gap.

One point that hasn't been given enough mention here, is that Mayweather is still going at age 35 going on 36, and he's taking on top fighters - Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz, Cotto, You can criticise this all you like, but those guys were or are champions when Floyd faced them, he beat these guys from age 32-35

Floyd will be 36 when he faces Guerrero! Jones was freakishly unstoppable in his prime, but when his athletic gifts faded he wasn't able to adjust his style in the way Floyd has

Being 'P4P' rated, or beating a 'P4P rated' opponent isn't a point to argue on, 'Pound for Pound lists' mean next to nothing - Toney was 'P4P top 3' when Roy beat him, Mosley was 'P4P top 3' etc. etc. it doesn't mean a lot

If Floyd had stayed retired after the Ricky Hatton fight, I would have said Roy. What Floyd has achieved at his age in the last 3 years, and what he's still achieving gives him the edge now in my opinion

    Roy Jones Jr EASILY .

Just like now ,20 years from now people will still talk about how extraordinary Roy was in his prime .

20 years from now , Mayweather will only pop in a conversation every now and then .

Kind of a tie for me. What I admire about Floyd is his ability to think and outsmart his opponents whereas Roy seems like he just ran with his God given gifts until they expired. Machine gun or sword? Gun seems like the obvious choice at first but at some point you'll run out of ammunition.

If Roy had retired after the first Tarver fight like he should have this wouldn't even be a question

I personally don't hold these tail end KO losses too heavily against him but others do. Mayweather definitely did not want to fight Margarito, pre Margarito Cotto, Paul Williams and couldn't get a deal done with Pacquaio ... Roy never avoided any challenger, especially in the manner that Floyd has. He was retired most of the time at the top and the best wins on his resume don't compare to Roy's.

Roy never lost in his prime and Floyd lost the first fight against Castillo, hands down. Roy was destroying people and embarrassing them while Floyd struggled to squeak by against an old Oscar.
