Not to mention the fact that Mayweather fights in a different era, and it's possible that the outcome of the 2nd Louis fight in particular could have been different if Walcott went on the defensive for the entire fight.

In fact, I can see Walcott possibly shutting out almost every opponent that he's ever faced, but because of the generation, you just couldn't get away with not fighting in that era.

People were at war during that time. Nobody wanted to see a guy run.

Why are you so obsessed with PBF? Why don't you make threads about others fighters asking the same questions? You need help man, everyday the same ****. "I'm not a hater I just want to test the boxing knowledge of PBF fans".:-(

Every boxer in the 1930's was a demigod who could do no wrong and fought their hearts out? Jersey Joe Walcott's an inspiration, sure, but we shouldn't think there were no bums in the sport back then and that cherry-picked fights are a modern invention. Primo Carnera's career path is hardly unique.

Why? Are you 80+ years old with some first-hand accounts to straighten out the tape and books I've looked at? If so, I'd be glad to learn anything you've got.

Boxing was certainly a bigger vat in that era, so there was more cream, but I believe there were just as many dregs as in any other decade. In mythologizing the Greatest Generation, we lose focus and belittle our generation's champions too much.

Having the NBA as the most recognized of the alphabet soup (at least in the USA) lent some real clarity to the heavyweight division, so those names definitely resonate today. With only one "real" ranking body, of course competition was more fierce! It was also only one ranking body to muscle in on for organized crime and national sentiment. That there's so many clean-smelling time periods of the NBA is a true credit, but that doesn't mean we can't study and learn from its demerits and corruptions.

Just because there's less clarity and stronger political/racial feelings towards the boxing scene of the 60's doesn't mean the cream of that crop couldn't stand against the cream of the 30's. Our sentiments for the Golden Age doesn't mean the current era has to necessarily be a rusty Iron Age - boxing has many of the same problems it had then; glossing over the history makes it harder to build upon and clean up the modern era.

I'd place Walcott above Floyd on an ATG list...Floyd I'd place in my top 45...Walcott I'd place in my top 20-25

Look man, you can talk all this type of bull**** or you can watch the fight.

Walcott is one of the slickest guys I've ever seen and you can see it even on the grainest of footage.

People talk about modern fighters being better, but name one heavyweight,.... ****, name ONE FIGHTER today that has the skill level of Walcott.

You won't find one. Like Tabin said, the only guy that comes close is Bernard.

I don't know, I guess I like to **** his fans off. But the thing is, I try to be as legitimate as possible.

I mean, I really do believe what I write.
