Simple question. Roach is credited as this great trainer due to Manny Pacquiao but what was his accomplishments before Manny. Keep in mind Ariza was was employed by Team Pac for the Diaz fight which was the first fight of Manny's comeback and 2nd prime of his career. Now fast forward to the Bradley fight and JMM 3 fight before it. Manny gets exposed for not progressing in skills as many thought and in fact looked his worst ever against JMM. Bradley fight Ariza left camp and was almost banned from ringside. Manny actually weighed in at 147 and looked badly fatiigued during the fight and lost. My vote goes towards Ariza because to me it's clear Manny has only slightley progressed as a better fighter. But hey. What you all think.:bbb

Both, Roach stylistically and Ariza physically.

Stylistically I don't think Manny has improved that much. I feel Manny is slipping like Roy was due too his athleticsm declining. That and choice of opposition which means he still has trouble out of his element of fighters. But hey. That's how you see it.

Roach as his manager he's guided him through safe fights against overrated/past their better days oppoents. De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Clotey Margaito and Mosley. There is a world of diffrnce from when he fights them and against componant boxers Marquez and Bradley. Without Roch setting up miss matches. Pacquiao wouldn't have half the secuess he's had.

OK so your crediting matchmaking which is a valid point but one could say he also handicapped Manny's skill cherrypicking and why he couldn't even to this day look good against a "bloated lightweight" as many fans called JMM when he fought a guy who's name I won't mention. It's almost a paradoxical statement but still a good point.

Pac has fought practically everyone around. There's no Pernell Whitaker to "expose" him as so many haters want. The fact is, despite having its flaws, Manny's resume its deep, and a combination of athletic ability and technical instructions by Roach has made him the ATG he is today. Sure, *******s make it hard to like him, but that's no reason to exaggerate his faults. Any resume can be picked apart like that.

To answer your question, Roach has allowed him to develop greatly. Marquez having his number does not mean he is not a very skilled fighter who maximizes his southpaw advantage. Ariza helped, I'm sure, but Manny would have been great without his conditioning regimens. I'm not sure he could have beaten Barrera, Morales, Cotto, and Margarito without Roach.

Both of equal value. You can't just train technique without the physical conditioning to be your foundation.
