Duran easily his defensive skills alone put him over Ali.

    Basically.

Ali would have a far more "Duran'ish" record with unspectacular losses sprinkled throughout his career if he wasn't... well... Ali.

Ali himself admits he feels he lost the third Norton fight, in Ali's own eyes making him 1-2 against Norton. Doesn't get much more clear cut than that.

I've seen very few people give him the Shavers fight, either.

Not to mention that Duran literally had twice as many fights as Ali, fought at multiple weight classes, and fought for almost twice as long as Ali... Past the age of 50 actually.

Speaking of Duran's first loss to Leonard...

We saw what happened to Ali when he lost massive amounts of weight through artifical means against Holmes, using a thyroid regulator.

He had to quit on his stool, couldn't even sweat. And he had to lose far less weight than Duran did.

    It happens.

IMO Duran, could you imagine a 6"2 225lb Duran with his skills and power as a heavy, hard guy to beat

Totally different situation, not even comparable. Ali was completely past it as a top fighter, Duran was anything but. Ali could have fought in perfect shape vs Holmes at that stage and still got soundly beaten, tho he'd obviously do better, how could he not. Duran did many great things post Leonard II, Ali was shot.

And Duran wasn't 40 something when he traded wins with Castro?

    Damned near upset Camacho?

When he beat the undefeated prospects Roni Martinez and Sean Fitzgerald, both by KO?

Ali wasn't capable of much of anything when he was "shot", beyond winning back his title against one of the worst HW titlests of all time.

That's a large part of the measure of a fighter, and Duran showed he was capable of great things, shot or not.

I'd hardly put Castro, over the hill Camacho and those other two in comparison with peak Holmes Russ. They are not even big fights.

Compare Ali to his peers at Heavyweight and you will see his longevity is brilliant.

Even when painfully outclassed vs Holmes (and under your mentioned duress) Ali certainly never quit.

    did duran have parkinsons?

Ali is a fighter that beat like what 5 greats, duran beats 1 and hes supposed to be better. You guys try to hype esteban de jesus like hes better than joe frazier or sonny liston. The dude lost to nearly every other beltholder he fought, anotinio gomez, cervantes, and saoul mamby all whooped that ass too.
