Gents, On a pound-4-pound basis, who's jaw is better, Wlad Klit's or Floyd Patterson's??? Both guys were / are known to be damn good boxers with quick hands and good power.... Overall, Klit has better power in both hands, but Patterson was known to pack a wallop in his left-hook from hell....... Also, both guys have taken lotsa' flack during their title reigns, past or present...... Anyway, if you were to get tagged on the chin by a wicked puncher, who's chin would you rather own, Klit's or Patterson's???? :huh:admin MR.BILL:bbb
the liston fights have done a lot of damage to patterson's reputation. keep in mind who he was in with: not all of them amazing bangers but still more impressive than his rep would have people believe. he took SUSTAINED beatings from ali without going down (i know ali isn't an all time hitter but had some pop), went to absolute war with chuvalo, took on archie moore (all time great hitter at light heavy, less so when he moved up) and got up from massive hits from ingo. Overall not the best chin ever, not the worst but had very good recuperative powers.
Pound-4-pound, I guess I will go with Klit's chin as well........... Patterson was dropped many times over, but, he did rise on many of those occasions too...... Getting KO'd by Liston is understandable.... Hmmmm.... SR.BILL
Because of Patterson's leaping left, he landed on his ass so often, I expected it. I'd underestamated Liston, and really had no worries, untill after the second KD...and he got up...he got up 4 of 6 times vs. Liston. Don't forget Ingo took out Machen with one punch.... Wlad got up in time to beat the count at Hanover vs Sanders, and was not wobbly...I was there and the ref was right to end it. Vs Brewster....Wlad was on his feet until the Ref's hip caused him to fall. I'm sure his corner would have stopped it... Wlad was on his feet...so his jaw was not china either. I think though Patterson got hit by a lot more good fighters than Wlad. When Wlad was Wlad before Sanders...he got hit seldom because he was doing the hitting. Everyone has seen that crack Brewster distorted Wlad's face with, and exhausted, he satyed on his feet...with help of the ropes...but on his feet....so I have to think Patterson had the worse jaw. Yep, and me a Patterson fan...he came in fit, and gave his best....So does Wlad. That's all I can ask for my guys...be fit and give your best, win, lose or draw...
I don't think either fighters chin can be considered weak let alone glass. Considering Paterson was a small heavyweight, Hell he was a small cruiserweight. I think he held up amazingly well. Patterson fighting Liston was on the par of Byrd fighting Wladimir. Both were undersized and out gunned. Liston was the most feared HW of his era. One of the most massive HWs ever. His fists were so big his gloves had to be custom made. As some has already said and I have said in the past. It was more due to Patterson's leaping style that he hit the canvas. I don't think either fighter is or were particularly chinny.
