Hopkins is craftier the way I see it. Toney, on the other hand, is fatter.

how is it even close? what's all this non-sense about toney being more "old school / throwback" just cus he stays in front of people and makes them miss. so what? the fact that b-hop actually possesed the footwork and footspeed to actually use his legs shouldn't be held against him. remember that in flashes hopkins would bust out plenty of the same tricks that toney would utilize.

toney couldn't fight on the front foot worth a ****. sure, his style is more suited to fighting big guys, but this isn't about that. the fact is, hopkins has always been the more complete of the two. toney's style matched up horribly against movers or guys with high work rates that wouldn't fade in the late rounds. toney also had quite a few close calls and questionable victories in his prime. hopkins at his best not only a hard to hit target, but was an offensive storm as well. toney being able to perform all those great slips on the inside only means he's better than hopkins in that one department alone. and hell, it's not like b-hop was a slouch in close either. a green hopkins did more to a prime roy jones than toney could.

so i ask you, is toney more "old school" just cus what he does looks cooler? or is hopkins the choice cus he has more dimensions and has had far more success having top level opponents fight HIS fight. hopkins by a landslide, cus bhop has landed just as many odd-angled, sneaky right hands as toney has throughout his career, but just cus he doesn't dip down or incorporate any flashy looking slip prior to the punch doesn't mean jack.

and people tend to glorify the whole fat-**** toney is so great cus he can be a tub of lard and hang with heavies due to his skill. eff' that, that's disgusting. get a better role model folks.

hopkins wouldn't last 3 rounds with peter, most likely would've be beaten up by jirov, and wouldn't be able to stop holyfield, the only thing that hopkins got on toney is his discipline about his conditioning and training regimen other than that toney is a much better fighter than hopkins, when you think about it hopkins had lived off beating tito and oscar, and 20 defenses oin the weakest era in the middleweight division in boxing history.

That doesn't mean Toney was a better fighter than Hopkins. All it says is that he was able to carry a heavier weight better.

I could come right back and say Bernard Hopkins never struggled against a fighter like Dave Tiberi or Sanderline Williams.

way to go off topic. what does that have to do with their styles? in the end, hopkins had just as much if not more tricks up his sleeve as toney did, and on top of that had far more dimensions and could do things toney could never do. why is it that since hopkins physically had the ability to do things such as using his legs it counts against him? the guy was a master at angles and feints, very subtle movements that aren't as flashy as the **** that toney did, but they were throwback techniques nonetheless.

exactly. we can also add that b-hop has never been embarassed the way toney was against jones. whether or not toney's style is more suited for the heavyweight division is NOT what is being discussed here.
