There's no point because you don't know what you're talking about.

Look I'm Canadian, the UFC is huge here, especially in Montreal, where Dana just said

"This is a huge fight for us. We’re breaking the North American record for attendance in the building with over 23,000 and we’re breaking the gate worldwide for mixed martial arts which will be over $5 million dollars,” said White."

Dana White is rightly proud of this accomplishment, but even in rabid GSP country the UFC isn't anywhere near as big as hockey is.

And do you honestly think GSP is going to be bigger anywhere else than in Montreal, him being a French Canadian? You don't really think he'd be bigger in Brazil do you??

The Montreal Canadian's can and have sold out the exact same venue for years and years and years. Not just once, but upwards of 40 times a year. It's a whole different level. And at the very top of this hockey mad town and every hockey town in the world, is Wayne Gretzky, who owns, or shares, 61 NHL records, 61.

He also hosts celebrety golf tournaments, etc. He hob knobs with the likes of Woods, Agassi (who mentioned Gretzky in his book) Magic Johnson, etc.

The whole discussion is so ridiculous that I don't even think GSP himself would believe this to be true.

No, I did say the opposite of what he thought I said. Outside of North America and Northern Europe (excluding UK) GSP would or should I say could be more well known.

So in the US and Canada and N. Europe Gretzky would be more well known.

I think Dana's just trying to sell PPV's they said as much on TSN.

But they do talk about how GSP is mobbed in the Philippines, so I'm just waiting for him to say that GSP has now passed Manny in popularity.

Dana's best point and most valid point is talking about the internet and such. The way a person or story is moved across the world is much, much quicker/larger now.

Well I will concede that if we're talking about who's most popular that the moment, than GSP is indeed likely to be more popular than Gretzky, especially within a select age group. (ie those under 25)

Baseball, Football, basketball and Hockey are leaps and bounds more popular than any fighting sport is this a joke? The NHL makes like 2+ billion in revenue a year.

This was simply a media stunt to promote UFC 124, he knew people would eat this up like hotcakes

    Who would that be??

because the Lou Marsh Trophy, which is awarded to the best athlete in Canada has been won by

2009 Sidney Crosby - Ice Hockey
2008 Chantel Petitclerc - Wheelchair racing
    2007 Sidney Crosby

Who's won this trophy the most, is Gretzky with 4 wins.

So I don't know what you're talking about, with this two wins in a row in 2008 and 2009 because there were two different winners.

The other big award is the Lionel Conacher Award for male athete of the year. Crosby's won twice, Steve Nash 3 times, Mike Weir 3 times, and Gretzky 6 times and Gretzky also won athlete of the century.

    No GSP in either award.

Who cares. What Gretzky accomplished in his sport is light-years ahead of what GSP has, or ever will, in his.

Awarded Canadian Athlete of the Year for 2008 and 2009, so says Wikipedia, although I'm not the hugest fan of Wikipedia as an enormously credible source.

Possible there's more then one Canadian Athlete of the Year award, but according to the same source, he's won it two consecutive years.
