Well if I'm too dumb that must apply to almost every other poster on this thread..why don't you read the responses and see what most people think.

Look obviously you're a huge MMA fan, we all are or we wouldn't be on this forum..but Pride went bankrupt, what does that tell you??

There really is no viable MMA business model to speak of excluding the UFC, and perhaps Strikeforce, what does that tell you?

Dana White is creaming his pants because he's going to be fighting in Toronto next April, and MMA is a minor league sport in Canada compared to hockey..and it's a fight 6 months away...or about 20-25 hockey homes games away...what does that tell you?

all this tell you..that rather than just being stuck in your own position read what others are saying..virtually all of them are agreeing with me..

Dana white's comments were a well thought out publicity stunt, he knew it would cause this kind of debate in Canada before he even opened his mouth..and I'm sure he loves every minute of it.

Anyway, I'm done with this topic..

Yes you are ******ed cause you didn't seems to realise that I DO BELIEVE GRETZKY IS MORE POPULAR HERE IN CANADA

Do I need to quote myself from the first page for you to ****in understand what the other half of the poster here are trying to explain the other half ?

    Happy now ?

Now why can't you ******** understand that the more you go to the east(meaning europe, asia...you know, the other part of the planet called earth) and the more you go to the southern emisphere NOBODY KNOW WHO THE **** GRETZKY IS because he is a hockey player. But if you go in country with a big background in martial arts(AKA most of the asian country) there at least a minimal chance that people will know who GSP is. Not much chance, but alot ****in more then ****in Wayne Greztky.

Why is that so hard to understand ? Why are you always bringing EVERYTHING back to north america ? Dana White wasn't even talking about Canada or not even about North america, he was talking ****IN WOLRDWIDE, even though I DON'T AGREE WITH HIM, he may be ****in right.

And to answer your stupid question about Pride, from what I know they went bankrupt mainly because of the Yakuza scandal...Japanese people are kinda freaky and anal about some topic. My roomate has a friend and she's listening to that J pop crap, and her favorite band had to disband because the singer tested positive to amphetamine.

So it wouldn't suprise me if the japanese stoped following Pride when they learn that some of the fight were rigged.

I understand what you're trying to say, I just don't particularly agree with it.

What evidence do you have to support your position other than your believe? Show me some kind of proof your ranting and raving while partly interesting but mostly silly, hardly counts as anything.

Show me any kind of stat that indicates GSP is more famous in China than Gretzky, I'd be surprised, considering Gretzky lit the touch at the last winter olympics and there was a huge following of chinese watching the event, same applies to the Korean's.

The bottom line is you'd be hard pressed to find say 30 athletes more famous than Gretzky, and that is in the world. GSP is no where near that level no matter how you want to spin it..but for what it's worth, he and the UFC are certainly moving in the right direction, fast.

Like another post said, what's next GSP vs Ali ?

GSP is doing talk show in the philipine...

GSP in a mall in the Philipine...

    Not enough for you ?

When was the last time Greztky got out of Canada(outside north america too) went to a mall and all those poeple were there to say him a little hello ?

And I'll repeat, I do not believe GSP is actually more popular then Gretzky worldwide, but to think poeple in Asia know Gretzky is completly ridiculous...

whatever, I'm done arguing with you, if you think Gretzky being the touch bearer of an event seen by billions of people around the world doesn't count for anything then it's a pointless argument.

When GSP does anything approaching this, we can then have an adult discussion.
FWIW, this event is hundreds of times bigger than anything GSP has ever been involved in.

After the cauldron was lit, a series of red fireworks were shot off in a ring around the exterior of the stadium. Gretzky then jogged out of the stadium, where he was then driven by police escorts through the streets of downtown Vancouver to light a second, outdoor cauldron near the

Under IOC rules, the lighting of the Olympic cauldron must be witnessed by those attending the opening ceremony, implying that it must be lit at the location where the ceremony is taking place. Although another IOC rule states that the cauldron should be witnessed outside by the entire residents of the entire host city, this was not possible since the ceremony took place indoors. However, VANOC secretly built a second outdoor cauldron next to the West Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre, and Gretzky was secretly chosen to light this permanent cauldron.

Quickly word spread through the downtown Vancouver area that Gretzky was indeed the final torchbearer, and very soon a crush of people came running after the police escort to cheer Gretzky on and hopefully catch a glimpse of him carrying the torch to the outdoor cauldron

Here's an idea, why not start a poll present your best argument and then see how things unfold. I personally don't think you have a hope in hell of winning but who knows.

What ? I show you that people in asia are actually aware of who GSP is and you back off ? Great, I would have done that sooner if I knew....

Dude, winter Olympic approx 70 country
    Summer Olympic 205 country.

And just explain to me how people watching the opening ceremony will know who is Wayne Gretzky ? What has he done ? You mean that you actually believe that watching a guy lighting a torch on TV is enough to asborb a 20 years career in the NHL ? That it will spark a interest for people to dig a little deeeper and know about the guy that lit the torch in the 2008 winter olympic....self centerness of north american people will always always make me laugh... !:D

Wow, you know, this is what I was trying to explain from the very begining. It's not because someone has done something extraordinary in a north americain professional sport league that the rest of the planet will honestly give a **** about him. That goes for GSP and Wayne Greztky, the only difference is that GSP is in a sport that 100% of the world population can do, unlike ice hockey.

When you will have Greztky doing something like that outside of Canada, maybe we could try to have an argument...and once again you seems to forget that I agree with you YES gretzky is more popular then GSP(for the fifth time...you want a sixth ?)

But can you aknowledge that outside north america nobody gives a **** about him ? Can you at least do that for me ? Just throw you stupid Canadian pride out of the window and man up, realise that really, NOBODY give a **** about him. He is playing a sport that only northen emisphere country can play...can you at least aknowledge that or are you gonna rant about the 2008 winter olympic for another 10 years ?

Like I said, start a poll see what happens cause this is getting stupid. The day a 100% of the world can be a mixed martial artist is the day people aren't dying of hunger..I would suggest to you that it' a sport about 2-3% of the world could perhaps do and far less actually do..So I'm not backing offf anything, I'm just tired of your childishness.

Your actually knocking that Gretzky lit the torch and you come back with GSP in a mall. Ya that's about equal.

And making reference to the summer olympics doesn't seem to ad much value unless GSP was actually in them or lighting a torch. And yes who lits the torch matters, do you think it was an accident that they picked Ali for the summer olympics in Atlanta?? Of course it wasn't.

I'll make you a deal. Name 50 athletes who are more popular than Gretzky in the world with at least 1/2 of them being outside North America and I'll concede.

2-3% of the world ? You mean a sport that actually require....almost nothing(alot less then ice hockey at least...) to do only 2-3% of the world population can actually train for it...I rest my case you are 100% delusional. And you don't seems to realise that in MMA, there is MA, everybody on the ****in planet can do MA if they want to...well, almost anybody...

I'm not knocking it, I only say that for people watching OUTSIDE north america they do not have much chance to know who is Wayne Greztky, and the fact you seems to not understand this is just the perfect exemple of why this debate is completly stupid. You assume people oustide north america have the exact same knowledge as you, wich is not the ****in case. Why is that so ****in hard to understand ?

I made the reference with the summer olympic only to highlight that only 70 country have participated in the winter Olympic compared with the summer olympic(205). I'm only trying to explain that there is alot less media coverage with the winter olympic, but I guess that was a little to complicated to understand....

50 is little high...I don't watch sport, tbh I hate all team sport, but I'll give it a shot and you will see it's not that hard.

And I won't go for 50...I'll try 15(but 15 non north american at least), like I said my knowledge of sport is very limited

    Alexander Karelin (wrestling)
    Pelé (Football)
    David Becham (football)
    Diego Maradona (football)
    Zidane (football)
    Jonny Wilkinson (rugby)
    Cristiano Ronaldo (football)
    Ronaldinho (football)
    Ronaldo (football)

Kinda hard not to get into north america...all the sport are there...

    Micheal Jordan (Basketball)
    Babe Ruth (baseball)
    Jacki Robinson (baseball)
    Cassius Clay (boxing)

Ive got 12....with absoutly no knowledge whatsoever about professional sport, so now try to figure if I knew a little more, would have been easier.

Now YOU may think those people arn't as popular as Wayne Greztky, but that is your ****in opinion, based on how many people are watching those sport most of the time, I think we can say those athlete are probably equally popular in there country as Wayne Greztky is here.
