I think hes the more famous boxer in the USA. I cant speak to the rest of the world and again its because hes more recent and had a long and publicized professional career. My guess is that if you held up a photo in most places in the world of each theyd know Golota more often than Stevenson but thats just a guess.

Wait for 20 or more years to pass and then ask the same questions about Golota vs. Papp and Stevenson.

I'll agree to disagree. Golota has the glitz and glamour of a pro career and if there's never a Polish heavyweight champion especially, he'll still be surpassing Papp and Stevenson even 20 years from now.

I didn't really mean to make a judgment one way or the other, just that as Golota's career recedes more into the past, his reputation will diminish somewhat and time will tell whose reputation will resonate more with future fans.

One thing in his favor will be that there is more footage of him. He may end up as the more well known fighter because of his pro career, but he might be remembered more in infamy rather than fame for his disqualification losses to Riddick Bowe. Also, you call him a heavyweight champion. I never considered that winning an "International Boxing Federation North American heavy title" really rises to the level of deserving to be remembered as a "heavyweight champion." There have been all sorts of regional titles throughout boxing history that aren't such a big deal. I also see in BoxRec that the last fight he ever won was for something called the

Thanks for clarifying. That's fine of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And now I'll clarify: I didn't call him a heavyweight champ. But he came closest among all heavyweights from Poland ( 6 challengers total) and so what I meant was if someone like Kownacki or anyone else Polish fails to snatch a major heavyweight belt, it'll go to show how good Andrew really was. Unfortunately Poland has never had a HW Champion of the World, just like Argentina, France, and others haven't either.

    Gynecologists would say Papp.

    Urologists would say Golota.

Speaking of Stevenson, is he the most famous Cuban boxer in history or has a pro world champion from the island since surpassed him?

Good question. I'd be interested in reading an answer from one of our Forum members familiar with the scene there.

As far as the world scene, do you believe Golota also is more famous than Serhei Liakhovich and Francesco Damiani on a historical scale?
