Who's More Intimidating? Monzon or Duran?

Do you want it to be covered in frills and feathers or...?

 

I'm wondering what it is, exactly. Perhaps a meat grinder of some sort?

 

Little wonder he did whatever the mafia wanted, whether throwing a match (possibly) or not. Many criticise such a potential action with Liston but i'd like to see how they might act when betraying the mafia gets their head nailed to the floor, or their family murdered or countless other indescribables.

The choice is zero. I'd be throwing any such fight in a heartbeat and anyone saying other is kidding themselves.

 

Duran. However, Monzon was a wolf in sheeps clothing. A bit more reserved than Duran when it came to outright indimidation.

 

Hmm... Well, I kinda just left it up to the imagination really. I suppose a meatgrinder could describe Monzon quite well. Then again, I'd venture to say Monzon was a bit more like a buzzsaw in his younger days. Though the blade was never really all that sharp. Rather, deliberately blunted to inflict as much pain as possible. Good enough?

 

What the **** stonehands? Did you just say Richard Kuklinski was almost as intimidating as Duran? Duran beat people up, Richard Kuklinski watched videos of people he had just fed to rats. Honestly, Duran was mean but I don't see how he's even close to as mean as Richard Kuklinski.

 

Overall Monzon has the slight edge. Both were scary, though.

 

Two quick choices for you:

1. Look up the word: "hyperbole".
2. Go lay down and have a cookie.

 

In that case, I'd rather be trapped inside the burning house; as long as I'm armed with a good bit of ribeye I should be alright.

 

Well I mean if you were using hyperbole most people would use some type of well known person as an exageration. When you use someone like Richard Kuklinski who most people don't even know who he is, you lose the desired effect. I thought you were intelligent enough to realize that so I assumed you were making an honest comparison.

 

I know who the Iceman is and where I am from (the northeast, USA), he is not as unknown as he may be in other regions. Old ladies in my neighborhood could tell you all five names of the NYC Cosa Nostra crime families too. It's all relative, yes?

It is prima facie unreasonable to compare a contract killer and sadist with a prize fighter. I was being facetious. To use a universally-known figure would be boring.

Anyway, the point was that Duran was among the most intimidating fighters at least from the media's perspective from the early 70s right up to 1980.... the media bought it, hyped it, and sold it.

Fair enough stonehands, I come from a very different demographic. I live in California, am only seventeen and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I know who has any idea who "the iceman" is. The only gangsters most people my age know are the ones they've made movies about.

I am about twice your age and lament how teenagers spend too much time on computers and such, but if you are going to, this is a good place to be! Here is history, argumentation (rhetoric, logic...), analysis, and the oldest (and best) of all sports... the Sweet Science. Have you ever heard of the book "Corner Men" by Ron Fried? You should think about getting it. It will give you alot of insight that would serve you well out here....

 

No I haven't heard of it, but I'll definetely look in to it. I do agree that I spend too much time on the computer and I also agree that I couldn't spend it in much better of a way on the computer than on these forums. Its surely better than staying on myspace all day.
