    Mike Tyson...

Honestly, this isn't even close. People across the world who aren't affiliated w/ boxing and have never seen a boxing match know who Mike Tyson is.

Although Oscar is made out to be a big celebrity, there are many people in the non boxing world who don't know him.

Tyson is definitely more famous/infamous. I dont know how popular he is. But definitely more world renowned.

If Duran can be excused for quitting while facing an opponent Oscar can and should be excused for three rounds against Trinidad and getting his liver turned inside out by Hopkins.

Oscar's recent behaviour is inexcusable but he's at the end of his career and semi retired.

It's not that. It's that Hoya brought in the chic factor. The one boxer you can take your girlfriend to see.

what do you mean by "popular"

Tyson is more famous, more people could name him or recognize him.

DLH's PPV sales have greatly surpassed Tyson. On those grounds if you want to define popularity as who is willing to fork over 50 bucks to see them fight, then DLH in that case.

World Wide Mike Tyson was the biggest Icon since Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson is above superstar he is in that group with Elvis, Michael Jackson, 2pac, The Beatles, John Lennon, Martin Luther King etc etc..

Oh and it was Mike Tyson that created Pay Per View...

I think everyone who voted for DLH are from US. Outside the US, DLH is practically unknown, I could ask 30 people and 5 people might know him, ask about tyson and probably 29 people would know him.

Tyson is an urban legend...almost like a boxing mythical figure. People who dont know boxing know 2 names, Ali & Tyson.

Popularity is how well liked someone is-

People watch Mike Tyson to see what he is going to do next- the freaks at circuses (circii?) aren't popular, but they can be a big draw.

DLH is revered in the sport as the Golden Boy because of what he has done for his country/ sport/ what have you.
Mike Tyson is villified in the sport where he has become an iconic figure.

I say that Mike Tyson is more well known, but certainly not better liked than DLH, even though I hate Oscar more than most :)
