Dariusz M is probably the most underrated boxer of the past 50 years.

It's a shame that Virgil Hill is in the IBHOF while Dariusz is not, considering that he beat Hill to unify the belts at 175.

European boxers were unfairly evaluated and disparaged by the American boxing media for many years, although not so much now as in the 1990s and early 2000s because of the undeniable success of Calzaghe, the Klitschkos and Usyk.

I don't think Monzon was shunned by America its just he was a terrible human being outside the ring which overshadows some of his great achievements in the ring.

Monzon is still widely considered to be a top 3 Middleweight of all time though so I don't think he's underrated at all honestly.

I also think Monzon is at a higher level than Michalczewski by a considerable margin. I'd have Michalczewski as probably a top 20 Light Heavyweight of all time where as Monzon is generally accepted as a top 3 Middleweight as I said.

Know who else is underrated? Joe Louis. Man, that guy. Criminally underrated.

... I'm being facetious here. Just don't understand how Monzon, a consensus top 5 ATG middleweight, is underrated.

I get what you’re saying but Joe Louis IMO is underrated recently. I think he would beat Ali’s ass and I’ll die on that hill….

It's about time he was appreciated on his own merit instead of constantly being in Jones' shadow.. he comes from an era when the term 'eurobum' was prevelant & men like Otke were seen as the flag bearer for that term, when all euros were seen as inferior to their American counterparts.. that's unfair, he was better than Otke, far more watchable & a deserving champion. In fact he's one of a handful of Euro fighters from back then.. Calzaghe, prime Abraham, DM etc.. who are often overlooked... these men were fantastic fighter's at their peak, they dont get enough respect for it. Fighters like James toney are venerated on forums like they're some boxing god.. but if you actually stand back & look at Toneys career objectively he probably has AT LEAST a dozen gift decisions as well as all his losses.. im not kidding.. Johnson, Tiberi, Sosa, McCallum.. yet they'll point to some iffy moment versus i.e Rochigianni for Dariusz or Calzaghe having a 'robbery with Reid' (it wasn't close to a robbery)..
DM could stand up in Kovalevs era, in this era & indeed in Jones era which did.. he was the perfect fighter for me.. a blend of precision, power, ring craft, offensive skill & tenacity. Should be in the HOF.

James didn't get a dozen gifts.

He was also hard done to in some fights.

James gets huge respect due to his great ability, and his will to fight the best guys out there.

Dariusz should be in the HOF, but he cheated to get Roch DQ'd.

And Joe doesn't get respect, because for ten years, he happily fought mostly non world level fighters in a weak division.

Yeah I know what a joke this guy is clearly biased what "dozens of gift decisions" did Toney get ?

I mean yeah the Dave Tiberi one everyone knows about but what else ?

Toney clearly beat Jirov in a competitive fight there is no debate about that unless you can't score a fight Toney landed all clean punches and scored a knockdown he landed 380 punches.....

Toney had competitive decisions vs McCallum I would say more people thought Toney won the 1st fight so I wouldn't call any of those decisions gifts.

Reggie Johnson fight was close but not a gift Toney pretty much won most of the late rounds after a slow start the general consensus is that Toney won in a close fight.

Toney himself has quite a few controversial decisions that he was unlucky to lose....I felt Toney beat Griffin twice and so did HBO team. Alot of people felt Toney beat Peter in their 1st meeting aswell.

Just complete lies and false narrative as per usual "a dozen gift decisions" is a joke of a comment.
