If Jurgen Braemar ends up behinds bars I believe Chris Henry is the next ranked contender. That could be a slightly tricky proposition imo.
Chris Henry would get wise to Clevs tactics quite quickly IMO. Is Erdei staying up at Cruiser then? I assume he'd be pushed into a vacant shot considering his history.
He beats Braehmer easily imo. WBO rankings are: 1 Bernard Hopkins USA 2 Karo Murat (Int-Cont) GER 3 Nathan Cleverly GB 4 Chris Henry USA 5 Vikapita Meroro (WBO Africa) NAM 6 Aleksy Kuziemski POL 7 Gabriel Campillo SPN 8 Alejandro Lakatus (WBO Europe) SPN 9 Soulan Pownceby (Asia-Pacific) USA 10 Marcus Vinicius de Oliveira (Latino) BRA 11 Mark Tucker (NABO Youth) USA 12 Vitaliy Rusal UKR 13 Dmitry Sukhotsky RUS 14 Isaac Chilemba MAL 15 Nadjib Mohammedi FRA Hopkins is fighting Pascal for the WBC so win or lose he'll be removed. Murat will also be dropped obviously. So from the rest of the list the most likely candidates are Chris Henry or Vikapita Morero, whoever he is. Or it could be Campillo, who I actually think would be the hardest test for Clev at the moment.
Haven't heard anything about Erdei. I'd imagine he'd take on Braemar who I've heard is nothing special but Cleverly and Henry are a different matter.
This is a very informative post :good , thanks mate I really have to reframe from commenting as i dont know my LHW's enough to pass comment , looking at Dawson and Pascal last time out , its clear Cleverley is a way off being ready for them 2 :deal , so where does that leave him ??? Will be interesting ..............
If his chin holds up Clev could well have a good enough style to handle any of these, wouldn't make for a very long career IMO though
I've been impressed with Campillo, but that might have to do with Shumenovs mediocrity (ain't seen his past fight in which he was apparently impressive against a good, if uninterested opponent if the reports I read were correct) but I think that would e a real good fight for Clev, if he came through he'd stamp himself near the top of the division IMO.
Thanks. :good I'm quite familiar with most of the top guys (but only really the top 4 and Campillo from the WBO rankings). I think Cleverly right now could beat Braehmer who has been fed a steady diet of weak opponents and isn't particularly good from what I've seen. I also would favour Clev (slightly) against Shumenov and Campillo although both of those could go either way. He's quite a way from being able to challenge Pascal, Dawson and Hopkins, and I also think Cloud would beat him at this point. Bottom line: I think he'll be able to beat a couple of the paper champs right now but he needs at least a year or two (and some top opponents) before he can take on the best in the division. But I think he'll get there.
Campillo is a quality fighter. In many ways I'd rather Clev fought Pascal. Campillo's been robbed a couple of times and has those 3 defeats now on his record which kind of blemishes it for people that are not that in tune with him. Pascal is bigger news, and beatable, and no more risky than Campillo.
Can't see this from the few fights I've seen of BS on youtube, fairly strong but inexperienced and a bit slow, I think Clev would do him.
I think it'll be Braemer, got a feeling Warren will make it happen in Dec, it's another big step up for Clev. He isn't hanging around! Through the last few years that I've watched him I personally I wouldn't have minded seeing him take a step up, then fight a couple at that level before the next one, but it's worked for him so far I guess. A smart step by Warren would be to pair Team Clev with a top, experienced coach about now, just to help the transition in level for both fighter and team. A fully fit, corner-obeying Cleverly beats most in this division right now, but he is headstrong and likes a ruck, and there are a few you shouldn't do that with in this division if you know how to box too. He's proved to have a good chin so far though, and it's clear from his face he gets hit a lot, so he will know how good his chin is. But I expect a much smarter performance next time behind a jab.
