It's like he's Pernell Whitaker, circa 1991. Gotten to the point that we'll have to settle for just watching GSP be brilliant against the next anointed "challenger" at 170, until he decides to go for a big payday at 185.
Yup pretty much theres no more mega fights involving GSP on the horizon right now. He will take out the Swick-Kampman winner then maybe Dan Hardy or Anthony Johnson thats assuming the many other Welterweights who GSP has already dominated dont knock them off in the meantime like (Karo,Hughes,Serra,Koscheck,Trigg,Alves,Fitch) and you would think those 2 would have to defeat one of those guys to earn a title shot. All those guys who are fine fighters have went into Rich Franklin at 185 mode.
I remember when there was good reason to doubt him. Nobody ever questioned his skills, only his mental chops - and when you have reasonable doubts about whether or not a fighter has the right makeup to back up their obvious talent, you're in Golota and Bowe land.
Well he did his mental push-ups and ate his brain wheaties, and now he's probably one of the most confident figures in all of sports. :good
Now. Unfortunately, he had to take a couple of losses to finally figure it all out. Imagine if he had a spanking clean "zero" in the L column?
He's better for it. The zero would actually cause more doubt and hysterical decrying, IMO - given what we know about fan nature (boxing, MMA...anything, really). People would come up with ludicrous examples of who he was avoiding to protect his cherry. Some very average guys would suddenly become ATGs.
It's a battle of attrition. Sooner or later, when there are crumpled bodies strewn everywhere in sight and George there in the middle picking his teeth with somebody's femur, not even breathing heavy, a slow clap is going to crescendo from the blackest depths of the peanut gallery.
Henderson is not any younger. I really feel that he deserves another shot at Silva. That being said, he got his shot. GSP has cleaned out the welterweight division. Some of you say he is too small for middle, but he looks too big for 170. I don't believe he can play the back and forth game between divisions like Anderson Silva. I believe GSP should consider giving up his title at 170, and campaign full time at 185. His legacy is established at welter, a move to middle is the only way left to advance it. I have wanted to see GSP and Anderson for a while now. I would like to see GSP vs Hendo as well. I will even take GSP vs Palhares.
Please don't take the above comment about Palhares as a slight. I believe Palhares would have a legitimate chance with GSP.
