I'd LOVE to see Martinez face Mayweather, it should happen. Macklin? I'd also love to see him face the British lot (Murray/Barker). Barker would be a really good fight, but i think he stop's Murray cold.
Maybe the British/irish middleweights can finally fight eachother now that they've all had a go at world level and seeing what sort of numbers even Brook/hatton did. Those fights would still be big domestic fights and make them a lot of moolah. I doubt they'll fight though. It's not a big deal to me if Mayweather/Martinez happens or not. It's a good interesting fight, but i wouldn't be mad at Floyd for not taking that fight. I think Sergio is talking nonsense when he says he would do better at 154lbs. I'd like to see Martinez put us out of our misery and take care of Chavez Jr. but that ain't happening anytime soon as we know.
Macklin v Barker would be an excellent fight even now. Both have shown they can hang at world-level and it could surely be for some sort of eliminator.
Macklin/Barker is such a natural fight it probably won't happen. Golovkin/Martinez. Martinez hasn't faced that many power punchers in truth.
Macklin should fight one of the British middleweights, if he beats Barker I wouldnt mind seeing him face Chavez, pirog or Geale. Martinez should fight Golvkin.
Golovkin and Pirog are the only real threats out there for Sergio, particularly the former. They're not massive fights though, luckily he doesn't have that much choice because he's nowhere near big enough for 168. For all the guys Sergio has beat and beat well not many could claim to be a puncher. Even Pavlik doesn't really bang punch for punch, and he couldn't get much going to make his thudding power effective.
Not sure about much bigger, Pavlik always appeared to me as an accumulation puncher who hurts people through a sheer volume. Pirog is not a huge hitter, but opponents respect his power, that is clear to see. As for the thread title, I would love to see Martinez fight anyone out of Golovkin, Pirog, Sturm or Geale. Middleweights could be an excellent division, if the top guys actually started to fight each other.
Not really arguing that, he definitely doesn't punch like Golovkin though. Right from sparking Bute in the amateurs to the number of clean KO's he's scored, despite being mostly against inferior opposition, its clear he's a banger. I'd like to see Martinez deal with that. Pavlik is just an accumulation hitter with heavy hands and got nothing done in the fight, Golovkin could really hurt him with single punches.
