Its been overdue since 2007. In 2007, Soto tried to fight Pac, JMM, MAB and they all ducked him. HBO tried to make a JMM-Soto fight in 2007, but JMM backed down, and fought Soto's "leftover"-Rocky Juarez instead, just like MAB did (when MAB picked Juarez over Soto). Soto shouldnt give an up and comer like Rios a shot at his title, when Soto was denied to fight for world titles held by Pac, MAB, JMM a few years ago. Soto should make Rios "earn his stripes" and "work up the ladder" by going through gatekeepers like Antillon, Miguel Vazquez, Funeka, etc. before Rios has the privilege of fighting Soto. Soto is wasting time defending his WBC 135 lb title, when he should move up to 140lbs and be the 1st Mexican to win a 4th divisional world title. by the way, didnt Rios win the WBA title Eliminator bout vs ANthony Peterson. so that makes Rios eligeble to fioght Miguel Acosta for the WBA World Lightweight Championship. Why isnt that fight happening??
Everyone knows Soto will now fight Rios, JMM fights Guerrero and the winners fights each other. Guerrero is JMM mandatory. Bob wants to make Soto/Rios. This is a making for a big HBO card or a good co-main event on a PPV.
Welll soto has to face Rios before getting a chance at JMM... and even then if he wins he might have to chase JMM to 140 because SOTO is in the back of JMM's mind.. Just not very important... Priority is pac, if that doesn't go trough... His plans are to move to 140 and fight the winners of Khan Maidana, Bradley Alexander for a 4th world Title 1 st mexican to do that if accomplished. Plan C is to take on Morales for a vacant 140 title. I haven't heard of a plan D... that might be soto or Guererro you never know.
Did the WBA make another interim champion? JMM must have been elevated to Super Champ since he holds the WBO and Ring titles. And being eligible to challenge doesn't mean you're mandated and forced into it. Plenty of people have backed out of title shots before. Soto has been fighting mostly undeserving squash fights in keeping with the WBC not making Mexican champions fight deserving opponents. Rios would be a great chance to get a credible opponent on his record, Soto could use more of those. He's capable of fighting better fighters, it's not because anyone is ducking him.
I suspect Soto will vacate and move to 140lb very soon. Leaving his stablemate Antonio Demarco to fight Reyes Sanchez for the vacant title in Spring. The winner will probably come to England to fight Murray in the summer.
I think the lightweight division is getting hot right now. JMM, Soto and Rios, Guerrero, and Miguel Accosta, Jorge Linares. I want JMM to stay in the division instead of moving up. If those fighters fight each other,it is gonna be awesome!
