My coach says that you should punch with your two big knuckles ( the first two next to your thumb) Jack demsey says to punch with the knuckle next to your pinkie (the ring finger) as this is the much forgotton power line jack says by aiming with this knuckle you will strike your opponent not only with this knuckle but thoes either side. whose right :thumbsup
Both are right. If you hit with your first 2 knuckles your first knuckle will be aligned with your radius bone, making it a straight line from your knuckle to your elbow. Same goes for the other 3 knuckles, but in that case your second knuckle will be aligned with your elbow. Do whichever you feel comfortable with.
The coach is right in general. Jack Dempsey's tip is based on his individuals features/preferences, developed with experience
A lot of hand injuries are with the metacarpal bone at the base of the two long bones that attach to the pinky and the one next to it. So better to avoid hitting with those two knuckles.
Ring finger, you hit better, with more surface, and less chance of injury. Dempsey was right, end of story.
I feel more comfortable aiming with the middle and finger knuckles. It's better aligned with my wrist
Middle and ring finger for me. My wrists are in constant somewhat of a rock and roll horn hand gesture.
