I've read about it several times - how Bejines was leading going into the 12th - and subsequently tried to dig out more basic info on Bejines. He seems to have been a reasonably promising young talent prior to the terrible consequences of the last round against Davila, having earned a couple of notable wins over Hurricane Teru and Julian Solis prior to the title shot. Can anybody shed a bit more light on him? On how good he was or how they viewed the Davila fight? Davila usually came up a bit short against the best boxer-punchers who had the tools to outgun him; is this the type of fighter Bejines was? How far could he have gone in a fairer world?
Never seen it but I remember Kiko was getting quite a bit of attention leading up to it. Think it was Davila's 4th attempt at the title. Remember reading the fight report in the Boxing News. Don't know if I could watch it now knowing the outcome.
Cheers Al. I've just found a thread from about 2 months back. Seems like he was highly regarded. This content is protected Yeah, it was Davila's fourth crack after the Zarate, Lujan and Pintor fights. I'm with you in that I'd find it hard to watch knowing what happened in retrospect. Similar to a fight for the same belt a few years earlier in the same arena.....
I have this fight but don't rate it too highly as an entertaining fight (even though Davila was in plenty of great scraps). I believe the problem was the way Francisco fell back onto the ropes awkwardly along with his fatigue. Can't remember too much about Bejines style sorry.
