I can write a letter, spell-check it, sign it, draw a funny little doodle at the bottom, fold it up and stuff it into an envelope .... and then seal it with hot wax and stick the stamps on it before either of these two can unload a punch.
I don't know but there were times during Chisora when I felt like I had never seen the oldest Foreman punching quite as slow. But that's just an impression.
Joyce is almost certainly slower. Foreman was quite a bit smaller naturally. Fortunately Joyce has an unbreakable chin and work rate. He just keeps coming and you can't stop him. That's why they call him the juggernaut.
Glacially slow. In fact, a glacier would probably reach its destination before one of Joyce's punches landed!
deceptive speed = great timing. Old Foreman was as slow as molasses, but he had great timing sometimes. Especially when he remembered to jab.
Great timing is definitely a thing. A slower fighter can negate a quicker one's speed advantage to a certain degree with great timing But there is no such thing as deceptive speed. A car travelling at 90mph is not travelling at 100mph or 80mph just because someone thinks it appears like it's travelling at a different speed to that which it actually is A punch always travels at the speed it travels at. It's neither deceptively quick nor deceptively slow A slow-fast speed fighter will land with shots which appear too slow to do so but in reality they're too fast not to. But the speed of a slow-fast speed punch is constant My pupils often ask me if slow-fast speed fighters are slow or fast and I always reply that slow-fast speed fighters are neither slow nor fast whilst simultaneously being both This is why slow-fast speed fighters are such a nightmare to fight. Because you see the punch coming but you're still going to get hit with it
George Foreman vs Joe Joyce would have been nothing more than legalised homicide. There is not one thing Joe Joyce has or does that is anywhere near the equal of Foreman.
Big Joe They say he's slow Very slow indeed But what do they know Let alone understand slow-fast speed
Just look who Foreman has fought and who Joyce has fought, just look how many fights Foreman has had and how many Joyce has had, just look how long of a career Foreman had and how long of a career Joyce has had. Foreman had more fights in his first two years as a pro than Joyce has had his whole career. There is simply no comparison between these two fighters ! Now back to the title of this thread,Foreman fought in far better eras than Joyce could even dream of and his hand speed and movement along with his style worked fine, then add to this that Foreman had the ability like already mentioned to knock people out with punches that they never even seen coming. Foreman had many attributes and his timing was certainly one of them .
Used to say stuff like Joyce threw a punch last week, should be coming in any day now, but since it's become more true, folks don't even know I am joking.
