Hi Fergy. That's a very intriguing question, I would assume we have Ali / Louis in any order as 1 and 2 , not going down the H2H v Resume route, tired of it, I will pick ( with not a lot of conviction ) Holmes, with Lewis a whisker away, will be interested in the forums picks. stay safe buddy, chat soon.
Lennox Lewis. More depth in his resume than Marciano's, Liston's, Foreman's and Frazier's. By a country mile in regards to the former 3. Better quality wins than Johnson, Holmes, Dempsey, Wlad and Tyson had. Also less losses than Holyfield (won the fights between them as well).
Probably Larry Holmes, maybe Rocky Marciano.. Funny anecdote that just happened: i almost wrote maybe Larry Bird, because in the 80s sports landscape, there were only two well known Larry's and everytime i think of Holmes I also think of my favorite basketball player f all time, Bird...lol I mean Larry Drew was also famous among basketball fans, but come on.. I wish the Larry's-Holmes and Bird=could have made a commercial together, like "they are everywhere!" or a Ford commercial like the one Holmes and Sugar Ray Leonard did!
Alright Mike? Yes it's gone on for blooming years, the Ali -louis ranking. Interesting mate, I've got Lennox in the bronze Spot but Larry could easily slip in there.
My Bronze goes to Larry Holmes - longevity, arguably the best left jab in heavyweight division history, solid chin, fine skillset.
Very odd to me how Holmes usually gets the #3 spot when he ducked his top contenders in the second half of his reign..... by his own admission.
Hi Buddy. Nice of you to ask if I am alright, says a lot about you, rather like George Washington, I can't lie, I have a health issue and its being monitored, so that's as good as it gets I am afraid, but you and all the other nice and friendly members keep me upbeat, thanks again Fergy. chat soon my friend.
I have Lewis at number three, but it's all arguable. Different judges and Ali isn't #1 anymore. A different line up for Louis to fight and he's not #2 anymore either. If you want to do H2H you could argue Lewis at #1 and then Vitali is knocking on the top 5 as well whereas I don't think he makes top 10 on a greatness list.
For me its Ali behind Foreman and Louis. There is a big gap between those 3 and the next group everyone else doe. Guys like Lennox and Frazier who I had in that group when I was young seem further and further away as time passes and the more I learn. They both fought only 2 of the top 5 HWs of their eras. Wlad would be there but its the early losses. Tunney he split his time between HW and LHW and was a smaller point fighter. Dempsey lost to Tunney. Liston lost badly to Ali twice. Norton was never lineal champ. Holmes theres a bunch of reasons.
Oh sorry to hear that Mike. Your one' of the best on here, friendly decent fella. Yes keep posting pal , always good to hear from you.
