who's the best boxing analyst?

im a fan of Paulie, refreshing to hear and tells it like it is.

 

It was always Manny Steward for me.

I quite like Jones too though.

 

Bama. I love how he scores in IB's RBR. He's the only one with differing scores. He anal izes every word he says. He could replace any ****ing judges anytime.

 

I always liked Big George because he reminds me of the trainers in my boxing gym, JG.

 

Teddy Atlas for me on USA Tv.

In the UK though we have some top guys, Ian Darke, Richie Woodhall etc etc.

Buncey and Lillis are top notch on Boxnation.

 

Roy Jones Jr.

 

I like Bernstein out of that group JG.

out of the list, bernstein. he is pretty fair in his commentary and doesnt let his bias or ego cloud his judgement. all time, my favorite is ferdie pacheco.

he's still one of the best tho.

 

As far as commentary goes Bernstein is solid, knows the history, understands the action, and is a veteran commentator. No faults.

Ward is amazing for the same reasons. Knows the sport inside and out. He isn't as polished as Bernstein as far as always having something to say, but when the Son of God speaks it's the Gospel.

Paulie is also really good, not as well-schooled in the sport as Ward but always has something to say and it's always intelligent.

Atlas is annoying if you KSAB, but I remember watching FNF growing up and appreciating his commentary. It's cool for his audience, people who tune in and don't necessarily understand the action or boxing. Atlas is good for casuals. His over-use of metaphor is the reason for this, which is also the reason he annoys most hardcore fans. He's a kindergarten teacher who has high-schoolers in his class.

Mauro is actually pretty good. His single drawback, and it's a big one, is his delivery. He's over the top and his voice is so fake. But he does his homework on the fights and the fighters, knows some history, and most importantly he's an expert at interacting with the other commentators. He knows exactly how and when to pass it off to them and when to chime in. He's a pro.

Jones has his moments but his ego cannot be hidden no matter how hard he tries. It's just who he is.

As far as writers go you can't beat Hamilton Nolan. Brilliant writer and also understands boxing at a high level. Extremely rare combination. I wish he did every fight writeup. Makes you think you're reading a report on a fight from the Golden Age. He' really outstanding.
