IMO, Tyson had a much better resume in 1987 than in 1996. Of course, I shouldn't dispose of your money.

It defeats the purpose of winning money.

I agree he'd have a chance against almost any heavy in history. But I think Jack Johnson because of his size, strength and skill might have taken him to the late rounds and defeated him.

On the other hand, plenty of fighters might've beaten him with size, strength and power. I'm not convinced that prime Tyson would win against Lennox Lewis, who was so dominant against past-prime Mike. I would pick Liston over Tyson. Buster Douglas, who wasn't elite, had the goods, obviously. (I'm not buying the excuses Mike makes. Buster flat-out kicked his butt and so did Holyfield.) Walcott would've had a great shot because of his unique style and his left hook. The Klitschko bros, especially Vlad because of size and strength. Through the decades some dark horses might've tamed him. I think a prime Eddie Machen would have bothered Mike. Eddie was mobile and clever, could punch with both hands, was able to fight inside and from a distance and was football strong for his size. He was a fine counterpuncher, had good defense and guts.

If we were talking 1997 Mike, that version might just bite ‘87 Mike’s ear.

‘87 Mike might then think “There’s an idea. I might try that myself sometime down the track”.

So, if ‘97 Mike never fought ‘87 Mike, then we might not have ever seen the eventual ‘97 Mike resorting to biting Evander’s ear in the second place (or was it in the first place?).

Not in my opnion. And I don't hate him at all, I think he's silly and a jack ass,
but I have some great friends I feel the same way about.
Wilder can't fight, he can hit hard, but his fighting skills are
amtuerish . His only saving grace is the poor compititon.
around today considered top ten contenders.
Back in the day, he's Jeff Simms, and a lot of other
    fringe guys that hit hard.

Prime Mike Tyson COULD beat any heavyweight who ever lived on a given day.

    The question is WOULD he.

No, I have a opnion , based on almost 50 yrs
of studying the sport, and spending a lot of
my time in a few world class boxing gym
in my area.Having the ability to listen and learn from
trainers that had literally hundreds of years of combined experience.

Also having the ability to recieve information
that may not necessarily agree with with what I think ,
but being able to see from that different
    perspective, without the assumption of
the individual having a "agenda" Helps.

Mostly played for laughs but Tyson seems to give his honest opinion on Louis Ali and Foreman.

I think ALI in his prime, as well as his run in the 70s between Norton 2 and Rumble in the Jungle would win.

I think Lewis and the K bros would be favored but I tend to think Tyson could potentially win. I kinda wonder if Vitali could emulate Douglas.

I think Tyson could comfortably beat all the post Lewis champs except the K bros (who he might best).

I agree with the General consensus that Tyson beats Lewis but I think Louis pin point shooting could be an issue. Tyson had great head movement but if anyone could land on him I’d pick Louis

I think Tyson would beat prime Holmes but it be a much more competitive fight.

I think Holyfield would beat Tyson provided he doesn’t do anything stupid.

Bowe had the tools to win but his defense was so god Damn awful that he seemed like he would get a horrible beating and could lose.

Douglas who beat Tyson I think would have a good shot at winning over Tyson at his absolute best. I get Tyson was parting and not training his hardest, but he didn’t come in grossly overweight or anything. I don’t know how prime Tyson would handle getting out muscle and beat up on the inside differently then a only slightly older Tyson.

he beat mostly everyone of note in the 80s, Witherspoon is the only really big name who the stars never aligned for :(

I think Tyson beats Michael Moore, Tommy Morrison, and Ray Mercer.

I don’t think Ken Norton or Leon Spinks trouble Tyson

I agree with the general consensus that Tyson beats Frazier, I disagree it’s a blow out. Frazier could cold start when he needed too (Quary I) and was never knocked out cold or quickly. I think this is a war, and Fraizer could take lots of punish and dish it out over 15. Tyson has to put him down.

Foreman is a guy I think would beat Tyson. Old Foreman was so strong the guy who muscled Tyson around couldn’t move him while he had a monster punch and more important for fighting Tyson a Jab with the power of a Mac truck. He’s a hard fight at best for prime Tyson and 90s head hunting Tyson is in for a shock. Similar young Foreman wasn’t As big or skilled as the old one. But inspite of being about the same weight Foreman’s strength is well attested, as well as his ability to ruin a small man’s rythm. He was great at getting his Prey into position and clubbing them to death with monster shots. Tyson beat Ruddok with some close calls but I don’t see young Foreman giving Tyson the chance to dictate the fight.

I don’t think Ellis, Patterson, or Johnson trouble Tyson.

Liston had a great Tyson like run, he also was strong, had power, and a good jab. I don’t really rate Liston as high as some though and I always thought Tyson had a better version of a similar career. His quitting on the stool in Ali 1 and whatever the hell happened in Ali 2 has always poisoned him to me. A lot of his wins are against smaller men, he has a hard fought win over Williams but I don’t rate them. From what I’ve seen of Liston, and this is subjective, he seems slow, obviously very talented but Tyson looks much more active, more tested. I typically give this one to Tyson.

I don’t think Tyson would struggle much with Ezra’s Charles (If only he was bigger he had the skill), Walcott, or Marciano, though the last would be fun while it lasted.

I mentioned Louis, I think of all the champs before him Schmelling and Sharky would have the best shot, though I would favor neither man. Primo would be too brave for his own good and take a beating, if Max Baer was afraid of Louis wait till he meats Tyson.

Tunney had the skill to be a challenge but if he was getting hit by old Jack Dempsey…

Dempsey was a great fighter but I tend to think Tyson improved on him in virtually every way and was 30lb heavier.

before that I think it’s had to compare Tyson’s sport to the pre 20s fighter, Willard would find he could actually have a worse night then the Dempsey fight. Of all the pre 1919 campions Jack Johnson is the only one I’d say had any shot at all. But if he could only learn a few decades of the sports evolution

In your honest opinion (if possible) do you think Jeff Sims can give the best heavyweight in the world (Holmes at the time) hell in 2 out of three fights, drop him on four separate occasions, and nearly ko him in five? Do you think he draws with any version of Fury, or picks up any belt today? I know we all hate Wilder but let's at least try to be honest.

It is absolutely possible that the prime Tyson beats anyone, period.
