Ken Norton has a bit of a rep for losing to big hitters, maybe not entirely fair, but I think Frank stands a good chance if he goes in confident.
Frank could box a bit as well as punch. I certainly see him competitive against a good number of top Heavies. Forget Ali, Frazier, Quarry, Holmes - too much for him. Lyle, Ellis, Norton, Bugner are all close match ups for different reasons. I think Frank beats the likes of Boneva, Chuvalo, Shavers etc Bruno v either pre or post Zaire Foreman could be interesting, given Foreman sometimes struggling to pace himself. If Foreman can't catch Frank early, I see Bruno giving him major issues. Bruno is certainly too big and cautious to be 'Fraziered' and I doubt Foreman can just walk through his jab.
Lyle could have been a nasty pick, but yes he wasn't unbeatable. I'm thinking perhaps Frank could possibly have beaten Jimmy Young. He wasn't a massive puncher which would allow Frank to fight with out fear of a ko. His strategy of frustrating opponents with his defence might not have been enough with Bruno's relentless pressure and power.
Stay out of this @janitor …. Norton is really his best bet, not a lot of folks bring this up but Holmes right or wrong said Norton hit as hard Tyson… I’d be surprised but maybe?
It's a tricky one. Frank could be Hurt and shaken up,if a guy like Kenny tags him early then who knows. Frank's best shot is getting in nice and early, bombing him out fast. It's not an easy pick for me.
I think it’s possible that Kenny also gets in in mulches Frank up, he had a good smothering sort of forward attacking style… he also had a helluva right uppercut if Frank didn’t have his wits about him he’d be separated from them.
...OK, so I am not gonna be popular here but, Bruno v Young Foreman could be a great fight. If it gets out of the first three rounds I make it a 50/50 fight. Bruno v Frazier? Frazier brutalises Bruno unless Bruno catches him cold. He had that power and he could finish. This could be a carbon copy of the Foreman fights. Bruno v Norton. I think Bruno is too disciplined to get into a firefight and likely softens Norton up stopping him around the 8th. Young Bugner might outpoint Bruno. A slippery customer with a great chin and wonderful defence. I doubt Frank stops him Lyle? I think Ron is a little overrated round here and I think that y'all think I'm overrating Frank, but I think he is a better boxer than Lyle and possibly stops him after halfway. I think Bruno would be in the conversation in the 70s. He'd cut a swathe through the 'contender' type fighters and he could have success against anyone he could hit... I didn't mention Ali, cos he couldnt hit Ali...
Beneath the elite tier ( Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes ) Bruno would have had a fair chance at many of them. Not that I would definitely favor him to beat the following guys but he’d have about even odds against : - Norton - Shavers - Quarry - Young - Lyle - Bugner - Bonavena - M. Foster - Ellis - Old Patterson My guess is that he’d win some and lose some but I have a feeling his win list would be bigger than the loss column
