I don't know if you're being willfully ignorant or if you're just ignorant. Either way, it's sheer lunacy to call him a 'manufactured' heavyweight. You clearly have not seen the man fight and if you did, you weren't paying attention.

If you are a boxing fan and not being obtuse for the sake of it, then I would advise you to pay more attention to the man's career. A world of discovery awaits.

He fought nobody, and dropped his belt to avoid Chrys Byrd.
Retired by a 10 days trained Vitali.

Lewis. He was the last man standing of his era. Lewis in reality beat Holyfield twice. He utterly dominated Holyfield in the first fight like nobody had done before. Yes Evander was past his very best but he was still regarded as the top heavy at that time and it was Evander who delayed the fight and prevented the fight happening the year before.

Bowe blatantly ducked Lewis when he was champion he only agreed to fight him when Lewis was champion because he had nothing to lose and Bowe's resume is just to weak outside the Holyfield wins to be ranked above the best in the last 30 years.

Vitali's resume is too weak and he lost to a faded Lewis when in his prime. Wlad while very dominant has reigned over the weakest era in the last 30 years and has obvious flaws which led to the early losses.

Tyson lost to the best men he fought. Yes he was past his best but he was in his physical prime. Holyfield and Lewis were simply better.

Holyfield fought the best but didn't always come out on top. His reign was inconsistent but still remarkable. The wins over Bowe, Tyson are better than anything else on any of the other fighters resumes. But those losses count and the cloud of PED use over his heavyweight career takes away some of the prestige.

Maybe not top 5 is a little exaggerated, since he surely would have a puncher's chance, but the fact is, today's top 5, Wladimir, Vitali, Haye, Fury, Povetkin, Pulev, Chisora, Wach, and all the others would have good chances of craking his glass chin.
Just compare Wladimir's best 10 wins with Lennox's ones, there isn't even comparison.
Lennox has never fought anybody as dangerous as Peter, Peterson, Haye, Thompson, Wach, Chagaev, Byrd, Chambers, Povetkin, and the list goes on...
In fact, Chrys Byrd, that Wlad defeated twice in his prime, was ducked by Lennox dropping his belt, and this is a fact.
Another fact is that Lennox avoided all the southpaws, never facing one of them, while Wlad is kinda a specialist of southpaws, he has fought like 8 of them; interestingly, Wlad has also been defined converted southpaw, but that's another story.

 

Bowe could have been the best but was beaten by the Colonel.

I don't rate anyone else on his resume. Who of these guys equals a (perfectly legitimate) win over Vitali? Or over Tua? Bruno? Ruddock? Tucker? Morrison? Mercer? Golota? Briggs? Holyfield?

He beat Witherspoon and Williams and Spinks was in 85 and 86. 1983 Holmes beats Lewis; if Bruno can outjab him, what does Holmes do?
