Simple as the title suggests. And heavyweight in this case is the modern definition (200lbs+).

Well, he beat Joe Louis. (LOL) That's pretty good.

Well, if someone picked him over a prime Louis, I'd love to hear why.

At their best, I think would be a toss-up against Patterson. Charles might beat younger versions of Floyd, but when Floyd was a mature fighter he would probably outpunch Charles.

Floyd might be the best he'd beat.

I'd pick Charles over a lot of alphabet champs. I'd take him over Chris Byrd in a minute. I was never that high on Byrd, though. I'd take Charles over guys like Maskaev, Ibragimov and Chagaev, too.

But there were some of the ordinary alphabet champs who, I think, were just too big. Like Valuev. I'd see that like a Carnera-Loughran-type situation. Just too large for Charles to really be effective other than a potshot here or there.

Charles was like Andre Ward-sized but hit much harder. So it's difficult to gage.

I tend to agree, although Patterson doesn't count here since he's not 200lbs+.

I think he would have had a great chance against most former heavyweight champs until they caught him, and also think he could have hurt some of the weaker jawed champs like Frank Bruno and Herbie Hide before they could catch him. He would have boxed McCall`s ears off. I feel he certainly could have picked up a title belt during the 90`s era. The taller heavyweights may have been a bit too much for Charles because of his lack of reach, best way to catch a taller fighter is if they stay on the center line after punching, because their head is nearer to the opponents fists, this is how Frazier would have knocke Wilder out, however Charles wasn`t as aggressive or as powerful as Joe so might not have been able to beat a giant like Deontay, I feel he would have given Frazier a great fight though and he would done better v Foreman than Frazier did. I feel Charles could have picke up a title during the 70`s too, he would have toyed with Leon Spinks ansd would have beaten a late 70`s Ali.

Primo didn`t punch harder than Charles and didn`t have the jab to exploit his reach advantage, Valuev would have had a lot of trouble catching Charles because he was so one paced and predictable.

Jack Johnson . as big as jack johnson was He was slick and can move i under stand that . but Charles would of had the right speed and timing to beat johnson.

    Willard is another one

Wilder is for sure one. Charles is levels above him.

Thats all i can come up with later on will have too come back later on and maybe update.

Actually, Charles is about the same size as Johnson. There's no more 5-10lbs and inch height between them.

I think Charles would out-box wilder, but I don't know if he'd survive 15 without tasting thunder.

I wouldn't pick anyone lighter and shorter than Wilder to beat him. But it would be fun while it lasted.

Yeah but you wouldn't pick anyone heavier or taller to beat him either.

    LOL

Most of the best punchers in heavyweight history were on the smaller side. (With Wilder, it's his weight. He gives up ridiculous amounts of weight to his opponents, generally)

But I wouldn't pick anyone lighter and shorter than Shavers or Marciano or Frazier or Tyson to beat them, either. Same with Wilder. If you are lighter AND shorter, the advantage goes to the banger in most cases.

5'9' past prime and fat Marcelo Dominguez was pretty effective against Valuev though. And he was shorter, much slower, weaker hitting and millions times less skilled comparing to Charles.

I think Charles would school Valuev so easily that even Dod King's pocket judges won't be able to save Nikolay from being defeated
