Povetkin stylistically is all wrong for Wilder. Pressure and heavy punches, Wilder won't be able to punch.
Povetkin or Whyte but those are still 50/50 fights as is most of Wilders fights if he fights real top 10 guys . I also don’t think fans know how close Breazeale was to hurting him with just one glancing shot, had it connected solid who knows ? Wilder is just one of those fights if he doesn’t knock you out he looks really bad, he’s like the Tommy Morrison of today that’s if he relied on stoppages ,but Morrison could box real good.
Or we can look at it that Wilder at 34 (who could cop injuries any time) wasted his prime fighting the lowest level of opposition he could get away with. If he had fought better opposition this question would be answered. We could be talking about his legacy defining win over Povetkin rather than his forgettable second match-up with Stiverne. He's now left it pretty late to build a legacy ... and at the moment there are a lot of pretty solid upcoming HWs who are going to be competing for belt shots as well.
This is a great answer and probably correct, although in the first fight he sure needed some ref help. I would say that because he does have some power, maybe a decent swarmer like Chisora who will be there to take a punch.
Whyte talks a good game about walking forwards and putting it on Wilder but i've yet to see Whyte actually do this effectively. He couldn't do it against Chisora or Parker could he? He likes to box holding his ground or even on the backfoot. You can't sit around with Wilder. I don't trust Whyte's gas tank either. Whyte Wilder would be a great great fight. I think Fury has broken Wilder's heart though.
