Wlad is a better boxer and a better puncher. Vitlay is better at being ****ing horrible, which counts for plenty by the way.

Wlad is greater. Vitali impresses me more and more in this regard though.

Any fighter born Vladimir, who does not use The Impaler nickname, and indeed changes his name, cannot be given due respect.

Vitali is the natural in the family...

For the record, I think Vitali is the better fighter. I can see him getting into my alltime top 10 HW soon. Both are excellent of course.

Vitali is probably better h2h. In fact, he has demonstrated that in bouts with common opponents.

Wlad is the better boxer and ranks higher by accomplishment.

Why would a 6'8 fighter need to fight in the trenches ? Ever boxed before ? Guess not.l

BTW, VK is one bad motherfu**er, he would give ANYONE over the last 100 years hell , win or loose.

I believe that Vitali few years ago was better fighter than Wlad, but right now Vitali is just a shadow of himself and Wlad is in his prime. So right now I would pick Wlad to win if the two would get in the ring.
Wlad also achieved more due to Vitali's lay off.

Greater and better are two separate concepts completely.

To compare greatness we have to assume both retire today and analyse their accomplishments throughout their resume. Wlad clearly is superior in this respect. Since this is the major criteria for any respectable atg list wlad has to rank higher.

Comparing who is better is by looking at fantasy matchups, comparing styles, thinking from a h2h point of view, estimating future accomplishments. This cannot be used when compiling atg lists.

It is beyond question that to date, wladimir has had a greater career and based on this alone would rank higher.

H2h vitali might well be better, but that is only hypothetical and is largely irrelevant. Yes vitali might have dominated if he didn't get injured, but again it's hypothetical and largely irrelevant.

You have to be biased or misunderstand the question to consider vitali a greater fighter than wladimir.

A prime Vitali beats Wladimir, but Wladimir has the greater accomplishments. Unless Wladimir's career somehow falls flat in its face, he will go down as the greater fighter.

I go with Vitali at the moment. The fact is that Vitali is the one that has cleaned up two of Wlads biggest losses in Purity and Sanders. While Wlad did beat Byrd, I think and admittedly has beaten better fighters, Vitali reached the top of the tree first and the fact that he has the better results against the common fighters gives him the legacy advantage. If he cleans up Wlads next successor, it will be undisputed.

Saying this, things are on the balance. Vitali is older and has never actually looked as impressive on film (an overated quality in my opinion). I prefer to judge on results more than aesthetics. If Wlad, does manage to take out Vitalis successor and due to ages this is likely, i think it will bring the balance back to Wlad, because his latest run is one of the best title runs we have seen in a long time. In fact if it were not for the fact that it is missing Vitali's name, it would actually be as good a reign as all bar the very best champions have had. A win over Vitali or his conqueror, imo, may actually move him legitimitaly into a top 10 spot. The problem is that a solitary loss has the potential to drop him well outside the top 10 and probalby even the top 20.

Strangely enough, we could actually be living in very interesting times, if a few of the contenders would actually fight each other and let us know who was the real deal and who wasnt.
