in mma , prime crocop. in both K1 & mma , semmy schilt. best striker in ufc history is probably anderson silva though. & certainly not liddell. (way too one dimensional with his striking even though he had the ko power & the right timing)
Effectiveness > technique, completeness and other opinion based bull****. LIddell was as effective in his prime as Anderson right now.
it almost sounds as if you took it personally. Are a huge liddell fan or what ? Anyway , i totally agree with effectiveness > anything (as long as it's working...sure). But there's a good reason why i'm not putting liddell in the best striker in mma history category nor even in ufc's history. Liddell's career = the art of matchmaking. (thanks to his best friend , dana white...) and i'm not insinuating that chuck fought cans all his life. it's not even about that. He finished some big names , (the likes of Ortiz , Couture , Sobral , Horn , Overeem)... The problem is that he was mostly confronted against fighters who weren't strikers & better yet...fighters who were even scared of his loopy haymakers. & it's no wonder jackson beat him twice. The first one certainly wasn't a fluke. (the one in pride fc). You're right though , as long as it's effective...why not. but hey , anderson's striking is effective too isn't it ? and if we're comparing the approach of both fighters , one is more complete than the other. (and i'm just talking in the striking department not the rest )... that's why i'm personally ranking anderson as ufc's best striker (so far)... but in the entire sport... the most impressive ones i've seen are def (prime) crocop , schilt & i almost forgot...manhoef. obviously mma is more than just striking , that's why the likes of sakurai , gsp , fedor , hansen , Penn (to name a few)...will generally always have an advantage even when they're confronted to superior strikers...
Look at the amount of wrestlers the guy fought. Liddell could crack but it wasnt by coincidence. And theres no way Liddell was ever as cerebral as Anderson. Anderson has a huge repertoire of strikes. Liddell was effective with the one dimension he had.
Liddell is a durable guy with good take down defense, his Ko's are spectacular, but his stand up is average at best. Even at his peak Liddell at 205 would loose pure stand up to Belfort. The only guys with skills in the UFC at the moment are Machida, Shogun and Silva*2, everyone else is good for MMA standards.
striker, is strictly puncher....so that said: Cro Cop-78%, but some of those are by kicks and not strikes.... Chuck 62% KO's.... Spider Silva 58%.... I ahve to go with Chuck
True - but I was replying to your comment that "Even at his peak Liddell at 205 would loose pure stand up to Belfort." The fact is that they did fight during their primes and Belfort lost. It bummed me out when it happened because I was always a Belfort fan.
